I just saw this thread and this video.

Seems justified, to me. I think cops can legally fire to stop a murder or something.

If I saw the video correctly, the girl in pink was about to get stabbed up

*shrug* As an educator (sub aide, aide, sub teacher, teacher and now an interventionist), I've waded in deep girl fights not knowing what the hell was going to happen to me. A couple of times, girls had box cutters confiscated when it was over. A terrifying thought, yes. Is it my job? No. But it's arguably my duty. And if I can do it with little more than thoughts and prayers protecting me, police sure as fukk should be able to do it with a nightstick and a Taser AND a gun. Yell "POLICE!" Fire a warning shot. Shoot a Taser. Something. Always de-escalate whenever you can.

(Ironically, ask any educator and most of them will tell you that they'll break up TEN fights with boys before they want to wade into one with girls.)

I'm glad you've stopped situations like that from going further. However, that is not the same as having to stop someone from dying with a knife pointed at them with little time to act. Many of us wish the police could have done a better job and prevented anyone from dying. But you weren't the one in that situation and I'm 100% sure you've never used a taser before. Also don't know if you expect him to throw a nightstick from feet away like that would stop the child from getting stabbed.

This is unfortunate for all parties. I don't comment on any of these headlines until I see footage (if I choose to, sometimes it's too much).

The main takeaways for me, for this case is that, if you don't know by now... shyt escalates and can happen fast. The cop had his gun out ASAP after parking, which to me, didn't seem necessary to breakup a fight, but seeing how he started firing, maybe he saw her with the knife off rip.

I try to look at most situations from multiple perspectives. I see a ton of comments on this situation on social and in here, about how he didn't have to shoot her like that. It's almost like people think that knives can't kill you in seconds. If you're a parent of the girl in the pink, would you be fine with your daughter bleeding out from a stab wound while police were present and could have intervened? Just watch how fast everything played out, we all want better policing, however, some of the reactions and expectations are pretty unrealistic when it comes to split second decisions with people's lives in the balance.

Too many factors in this case but still a conversation to be had. Unfortunately you could rewind this situation 100 times and have a 100 different outcomes a lot of which end up with a dead child

I didn’t even see the dog at first, it’s even worse after rewatching the video in slow motion. Dad is kicking somebody in the head and the girl in the pink was just casually walking holding her dog. All the cop sees when he gets out is ol girl about to stab another girl who’s not even attacking or fighting her.

If the excuse is that she was in the process of stabbing the other person the officer could have just used his taser. That would have incapacitated a 15 year old girl and she would have dropped the knife. Hell even do a physical take down with another officer. If she is "attacking" someone a well trained officer should be able to tackle her while she's distracted.

No need to use a gun in this situation. There was no immediate threat to the officer.

Tasers don't work very often. Sometimes they can bounce off your clothing, sometimes it doesn't go all the way through making it ineffective.

Shid at that video. Didn’t think Makiya was the one about to knife the girl. At the same time, he didnt have to shoot her 4 times! There’s multiple cops on the scene, they’ve also got tasers or pepper spray.

Like @Rhakim mentioned, go to London and cops there resolve knife incidents without being armed.

Shooting a knife wielder wouldn't work. With Adrenaline sometimes you don't even know you're shot.

if a cop gets to the scene late and is out of distance to use a taser/stun gun etc..then shoot for the damn leg or some shyt..4 times in the chest or back?

Have you ever been to a gun range? Shooting small moving targets, like legs, arms, or hands, is extremely hard. FYI if you get hit in the leg where the artery is located, you bleed out pretty much instantly.
