Gamergate was a huge issue in 2012 when a journalist wrote an article about a female video game developer who he dated - he shared explicit photos and messages by her and accused her of cheating on him with a journalist at IGN and he basically said she let dude smash to get good reviews on the game she created.

This started the whole 'Social Justice Warriors/Male Feminists' movement in gaming to protect women AND there were mad dudes who are misogynists who bashed the fukk out of this girl and she got threats left and right and she wasn't safe at her house because people leaked all her info.

This was a huge deal in the gaming industry (an industry that rakes in more money than the movie industry btw).

But no, nikka nerds ain't gotta tool up. This is the first shooting in the history of video game tournaments.. This was one psychopath who killed people for losing a game of Madden.

America in general needs to wake up though: mass shooting happen nearly every day according to statistics, if there's a public event security needs to be WAY tighter than Americans generally think is necessary. All schools should have metal detectors. All schools should have a very limited amount of entry points to buildings, and there should be metal detectors AND security agents there who are licensed to kill in case of an attack. Malls, same thing. So basically the 'free' life of people will have to make way for a much more regulated life, but it would mean less shootings ideally

Of course.. when someone REALLY wants to do damage they will come up with something (See the white dude who shot those people in Las Vegas from his Hotel Room). Also many businesses and schools will not want the extra costs of making their schools safe.

But this is where government needs to step in: they need to subsidize this. They won't though.

Honestly, this whole thing is pretty haunting. I've gone to several fighting game tournaments and it was always a chill environment with like-minded folks. Sure, there's salt and drama, but it always got handled in the game. The idea of some dude just lighting the place up because they lost is nuts.
