Betty deserves to die.

Don's little side mission better have a satisfying ending. Is it a two hour finale?

Just caught up with the season (the most recent episode was outstanding)

Happy to see Pete Campbell of all characters get that W. Good send out for his story arc. Unlike Don's past women, you could always tell Trudy still loved Pete, and she never moved on to a new man. They always kept it amicable and seemed to just work together.

Peggy looks like shes embracing her new role and she has all the confidence & savvy now to rise up the ranks. You can only assume she'll go on to do great things professionally, which was always her priority over her personal life.

Great to see those two characters end on high notes, its crazy how far they have come.

Betty stuff was sad, especially when Sally read that letter :mjcry:

She handled it the way she handles everything though, and seems to be at complete peace with whats coming. I think the realization that Henry Francis was going to have to raise the kids hit him just as hard as Betty dying (when he was sobbing in Sally's bed, "what am I going to do?"). Sally might be old enough to stand on her own soonish, but hes still raising Don's son, and a baby. Ouch.

I hope we get a couple more Roger scenes, that is the one storyline outside Don that didnt feel closed ... but then again his purpose was really never to develop as a character, he was relief from the rest of them, and the storylines. Perhaps we dont need to see him again, but Im sure we can all agree hes a favorite, and a finale could use just a touch of Roger Sterling fukkery.

As for Don, I think its pretty clear the story is coming full circle. You just have to think back to season one, when he was high at Midge's place and had the flashback to his childhood home, when that hobo stayed with them. That hobo taught him the 'code' & told Don how he gave up his family/responsibilities to have the freedom of the road. Hard to not connect those parallels right now, although I have no clue what the finale will bring, but the past two episodes seem to be leaning back to that flashback heavy. I think closing the episode a couple weeks ago with 'Space Oddity' by Bowie was a signal that Don had released himself from the world he once knew, and was ready to find peace in a different life. Sadly, he didnt leave anything behind but a job/money. Most of his personal relationships have burned away or people have moved onto bigger things in life.

Im expecting the finale to focus almost solely on Don/dikk's journey. Last episode left us in an interesting place, you almost could have wrapped up his story on that bus stop in the middle of nowhere. I was starting to feel like his transformation back to dikk was almost complete in that episode. I dont really know what more to expect right now. Knowing Weiner, hes gonna give us something deep and beautiful though.

Its over brehs :mjcry:

on one hand i hope thats a happy ending for Pete (and maybe the only real happy one, which would be typical that the rich kid gets it)
but on the other hand i'm ready to laugh when he takes that final "L"
.

I thought for sure this was a W for Pete. His pedigree has been on display lately. Private school, long storied family name, Ivy league. Guys like Pete always come out on top just by being who they are. It's the dikk Whitmans and Bob Bensons that can't be themselves and succeed. They need to invent characters to get in on the American Dream. The sad part is they can't even enjoy the dream when they get it because they are living it as someone else.

This makes sense in the Mad Men archetypes. It would be cool if Pete finally got the W because he relinquishes his archetype.

He's been living off his family name (generational wealth / connections) and trying to live up to it as well (always trying to do something to be proud of or make it big). By going to Kansas, he relinquishes it all ... the Campbell name means nothing out there and everything he gets/earns will be of his own doing.

But ... Weiner's been pretty consistent with how he treats his characters and we all know Pete is the king of L's ...

The end song of the last episode was Buddy Holly - Everyday ... who died in a plane crash ... :ld:
... Pete's dad died in a plane crash :patrice:
... now he gonna work for the pre-eminent private plane business? :usure:

There's a theory out there that Don comes up with buy the world a coke campaign in the finale
Could see it ... alot of Coke placement/references throughout this season

Would seem odd for him to return to work though with how the past two episodes have transpired, no?

I really dont know what to expect right now ... maybe he hears about Betty's cancer when he does his weekly call to Sally and it transform him back to Draper and he returns to his life in NY? He goes back to take custody of the kids and be a full time father?

I dunno :ld:

I listened to a couple of podcasts that thought that Weiner was making a statement about Pete's idea that life would be better in a small town, as you see Don in a small town full of shady people... Just a little watered down version of the city.

Hmm, I'd disagree. Really only the kid was shady.

I think Pete wants Trudy back, his family back more than anything else. He's seeking happiness in that.

This. Don is just going to transform again and live a quaint small town life in Kansas. He wants to be more important to actual PEOPLE rather than a business' portfolio.
