Mad Men: Season 6 - April 7th

Best episode of Mad Men in quite some time. Definitely the best of this young season.

Loved the mirrored stories of Joan and Dawn. Their lives inside the office are really incomprehensible to their friends/family outside the office and they have no support system within the office to deal with it. Dawn sort of reached out to Joan to mitigate the latter, but I bet Joan rebuffs that.

Pete catching L's left and right...clumsily offering Don his apartment in the city, forcing the pitch to Heinz Ketchup (Don should have stood firm in stopping that), paying for the room while they hosted other agencies

Peggy schooling her mentor

Plus the little quips here and there (like Roger asking if they should fire him before he cashed the check and Burt telling Harry he's not like him in any way), great episode all around.

Regarding Harry vs Joan for partner:

I don't know enough about Harry to assess his qualifications for partner status, but Joan definitely does NOT deserve to be partner. She only got it cuz of one act that had nothing to do with her actual function within the organization. An act she has no intentions on doing again, and really could not do again unless they want to be branded as a prostitution ring. She deserves to be head of administration, that's it.

At least Harry's case is built on repeatable skills that will be used in the future.

Harry's not taken seriously for partner because TV isn't seen as important at that firm. He'll probably leave and make it big but it won't be there.

Have they ever said what percentage Joan has in the company? I'm sure it's real small. Like 2% or some shyt. I'm sure they could give Harry a small percentage as well. Of course he's gonna have to put some heavy guap up if he wants to sit at the big boy table.

Lane's percentage probably was cashed out by his wife to pay off his [estate's] tax debts and the remaining partners bought it pro-rata. That's usually what happens.

They made her hoe to keep the company afloat, not for the partneship...that was the only time she was truly essential to the level of the other partners, and she held their feet to the fire and got partnership out of it.

In the absence of that proposition, if she had threatened to leave if not made partner, she wouldn't have gotten it. They don't like Pete, but they couldn't let him walk. They like Joan, but they wouldve let her walk if she dug her heels in.

if i was writing on the show, i'd drum up a storyline of joanie rollin thru the bar with dawn and doods gettin at her, with them taddies. you know some dude's would be choosing , make her feel special like gregory did liz on the americans

then dawn's slick talking friend would give her some lip about it while joanie's friend would be all like "what was it like ?????
