Hate to break it but that article is old and due to the continued production problems finally opted to shoot in 2D and convert it to 3D in post-production to keep the costs lower. Exactly . It was ingenious to have max play the role he did and the parallels between him and furiousa . He had gave up hope , she didn't . They played his reluctance so well in the beginning how he even shot the chick and was likehe was a presence the whole movie and to me you don't have to have a million lines to be the star , hardy was a force of nature and has a ton of charisma . Now he's established max for future stories in other places where he winds up helping others
Plus:
there's the role reversal before the final act when Furiosa finds out the Green Place is gone, loses all hope and plans to drift the wasteland aimlessly like Max did before, and Max becomes the one to turn her around and stop her from becoming him.
