Robert Downey Jr. wasn't acting foolish and making a stereotypical mockery of Black people in "Tropic Thunder"? or does he get a pass because it's "just a movie"

He was mocking Blackface and white people's racist vision of Black stereotypical characters in Hollywood movies, not Black people, but it's a complicated thing to try and do. Same with Jon Hamm and Tracy Morgan in that SNL skit.

Bingo! He did get a pass. There was no outrage, hardly a peep, why do you think he never had to apologise?

Actually, he got a shytload of outrage. I was one of them, and I wasn't alone by a long shot.

Then I saw the movie. There were layers to his performance, and to his performance within the performance. Not very many could have pulled it off, but he managed to do so.

She fukked up by painting her face. It's like Cosplay: you don't have to paint your face or do weird stuff to your eyes in order to perform succesful Cosplay. Some of the best cosplayers look nothing like who they're Cosplaying as (don't believe the 'yellow fever only choosing the pictures of asian-girl fetish/white-girl fetish objects as representative of cosplay' hype). They embody the spirit of the play, though. Remove the facepaint, keep everything else. Then it's no longer offensive. Or as offensive (I still can't with that show, personally, but that's .. personal).

much like Downey, and the Mr. T costume, I don't see the problem. There was no exaggerated mockery of characteristics. There was in the Serena Williams costume (Serena is also a real person, no need to exaggerate her ass, and hair, that's mocking).

Nick Canon imo isn't being racist painting himself white, he's not reinforcing any negative stereotype. He's just playing a white dude.

Check out this comment from the comment section:

:comeon:

I love that some of them are quick to bring up blacks.

"Jews don't care because they're actually successful."
"If he was in blackface, he would be in bigger trouble."
"Jews worked for equality. Blacks whined." And so on.
Even one said to a black guy: "Oh well. Keep whining about whitey till your death."

Last time I checked, plenty of racists like Paris Hilton, Dog the Bounty Hunter, Zimmerman, Donald Sterling, etc are doing just fine. No matter how much these whites think we "whine", it's their lack of punishment that's the problem and the cause of continued controversy.

People still feel that other racists like Mel Gibson are only having trouble because he insulted Jews, and he'd still be having plenty of work if he only said "pack of n*ggers".

:heh: The Tropic Thunder thing was funny, and the racial ignorance portrayed by the character was addressed numerous times. The fact the character was oblivious to the racism was what made it funny. Tom Cruise was dressed up as a stereotypical jew executive in the movie as well.

Hey you smart dumb nikka, why don't you utilize the "quote" function and show us the posts of people giving their full throated support of cacklemores actions? Because it seems your the only one making ignorant posts.
I used quotation marks instead, in order to not disturb the people who wrote the posts in the same way you are disturbing me. But dumb (and not so smart) nikkas apparently need coded quotes to understand what's quoted.

why do these celebs always do the exact worst possible shyt? I mean you literally chose to do this most controversial, offensive shyt for no reason? It seems too deliberate.

And the director of the whole movie was a Jew.

Macklemore getting braaaaave. There's two groups of people you never make fun of/insult if you want to prosper in life - especially in the realm of celebrity. He's in the good graces of one group(gays). He just pissed the other group(jews) off bad. Let's see how this plays out.

So maybe the answer is its offensive when enough people get offended:heh:...but that would mean the only way to know is if people are "cry babies" about it:manny:...the fact nobody made a huge deal out of Robert Downey doin it kinda ruins the argument that black folks just whine and overeact:sas1:...apparently we know how to make a good judgement call,if you don't want to give black people the power to make that judgement call and be offended, dont wear blackface all willly nilly:pachaha:
