His major flaw as an emcee is that his voice isn't an instrument..Atleast not in the same way as Pac or Scarface.. With him it's more about being a wordsmith...His pen game is sick..So you can't say that you value lyricism and not appreciate this album..But it would probably would be more effective if he delivered it in Ice Cube's Death Certificate era voice..I get that criticism because I felt the same way when I first heard him years ago..But sometimes you just gotta work with what God gave you..
I'd also be interested to see what the reactions would be like if Lasers and that awful mixtape never happened and this was his follow up to The Cool.
Those two releases had set expectations so low that Lu could've released almost anything and it would sound like a come back.
Yeah that's exactly what I said

i value lyricism as much as the next poster, lupe doesn't offer anything special in that area that makes me appreciate the album, just because you have a x-value of it... don't mean other folk should have as well.
it doesn't deserve to have that title bestowed upon it.
Lupe isn't that charismatic, and his tracks lack sincere emotion. I enjoy his music but felt like that's been the problem across all his albums.
oh i catch the shyt he's saying, i just ain't impressed by it anymore, especially how most of it is contrived and corny, + in contrast to other rappers who have tackled the whole figurative language type-rap material.I disagree but not enough to try to convince you to agree with me.. Not everyone hears the same things or even has the same appreciation for what they hear...I don't know what emcees you think are great lyrically so I don't know who you are comparing him too, but it's all good..
Reading through the thread on my first listen, and I had to stop on this.
This is brilliant. And I'm not usually a fan of the alternative covers (I think they miss the point most of the time).
Its funny how stans always get called out but the other people on the other side of the spectrum is even more radical
he's the GOAT... I've never heard a better rapper in my life... better than prime Hov, Nas, Rakim, Pac, or whoever else's music I've had the pleasure of being exposed to
He's GOAT now....He's GOAT now....UH-OHHHH.....HE'S THE GOAT NOWWWWW!!!!!!
to all the doubters, haters, c00n and sellout worshippers(the first 4 summarize 75% of The Booth) and especially the old heads unable to accept that the undoubtedly greatest talent of his generation is just as good as BIG, Nas, Pac, Jay-Z, Rakim, Eminem(LOL) etc if not better(he's better than all of them...I'm just being nice to ya'll because I'm in a good mood).
He keeps on like this and his status as the most skilled, gifted, artistic and culturally necessary emcee to be ever pick up a fukking microphone will hold strong throughout the decades and centuries against you lames so consumed by negative energy and an obsession with swag, weed, hoes and 90's hip hop to accept this truth.
Some of you might be thinking "Damn, the way Loopy, Lupgay(insert whatever stupid, unfunny, unflattering nickname you have for the GOAT here) fans act makes it hard to embrace how undeniable great he is."
Deal with it. Nas is the OG GOAT, Lupe is THE GOAT, and they'll have a heart to heart and decide whether or not to allow Kendrick Lamar into the conversation in a couple years.
Pac would be proud of Lu if he were alive today. That's a given, and as for Jay....well, he'll be listening to the album next week and then proceed to look at his later career with theface because he wishes he could make songs and rap like THE GOAT can rap.
1. Fahrenheit 1:15: The Truth is Among Us
2. Fahrenheit 1/15th part 2: Revenge of The Nerds
3. Fahrenheit 1/15th part 3: A Rhyming Ape
4. Food & Liquor(Advance)
5. Food & Liquor
6. The Cool
7. Enemy of the State
8. Lasers(status but still had some very good songs)
9. Friend of The People
10. Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album
11. And random songs, freestyles and features packed with enough lyrical power they might make your favorite rapper consider retirement.
^ The recipe for a legend, and he still has at least 2 albums to go.![]()
My opinion is that Lupe Fiasco is overall the GOAT talent wise and will have the resume to back up being the GOAT period when he retires. As far as pure skill(lyricism, concepts, flow, storytelling, the ability to keep things fresh with his subject material, rhyme schemes, etc) I don't see much of an argument for anyone being able to see him and his resume is extremely good so far.
