props for actually listening- some people hate lupe for no reason

man maybe go back to it some other day- cause u have a great taste in music so im surprised u didnt like it

it was hard to listen to the lupe right after that crazy alley boy mixtape n that gucci/future song "fukk the world"- cause alley boy mixtape n gucci/future song were straight gangsta fire shyt- lupe more with them deep/political fire tracks

i put it in this morning, and played it again.. as i said, theres a few joints on here

- bytch Bad
- Lamborghini Angels
- How Dare You
- Braveheart
- Form Follows Flow

other than that, the production & choruses are borderline terrible.. Cold War is pretty dope lyrically, but the chorus is :scusthov:

outside a few tracks, I really doubt i'll ever go back and listen to this.. too much other good music out to treat this album with any kinda special "man.. maybe i should go back, because i missed something" treatment..

props to the cats who like it, tho..

Lol people saying this album eh I won't even accept that u a hiphop fan from now on . This the type of album I been waiting for wasalu to release his entire career

Don't you dare call me up on being a hip hop head you lame ass little stan. You ain't built for that. Your gateway into this music was probably MMLP or The College Dropout so miss me with your pseudo-hip hop purist shtick.

It takes a lot more than fancy metaphors and left wing politics for dummies lyrics over bland beats to impress me.

This shyt is a snoozefest.

Not the abominable garbage that Lasers was but this is just bland, lifeless J Cole music.

His music has just lost the life that the early mixtapes, F&L and The Cool had.

going to have to agree to this to extent.

no doubt people will like it but i feel alot of overreaction going on in this thread because people saw him as some sort of saviour and pinned their hopes on him... i get the overreaction though because all the crying etc his fans had to go through to get Lasers out and then it being hilariously bad and with the bar being set low anything that wash't would make people be like :ohlawd:

he's a talented lyricist but even though i liked him and think The Cool is a fantastic album (closest he'll come to a classic) i've always felt there was something missing from him as a rapper.

only song i liked leading up to the album was Lamborhini Angels and it's still one of the better tracks with Audubon Ballroom and Form Follows Function.

alot of Lasers elements still present..productions hit or miss with none really standing out (the fact that the biggest reaction the beats on here got was when the bootleg TROY beat popped up) and the hooks on most of the tracks are atrocious.

it's all very well praising his verses and message etc but if the rest of stuff thats supposed to make you want to listen isn't doing it then it's going to get lost... if his fans like it, good for you but that whole not a hip-hop fan garbage if you don't fukk with it nah... that shyt is as corny as Lupe and patronising and probably part of the reason why people dislike him.. he gets put up on a pedestal.

going to have to let it sink in more but i don't feel i'll be listening to it like that....too much stuff to be forcing something on yourself.

Lupe isn't that charismatic, and his tracks lack sincere emotion. I enjoy his music but felt like that's been the problem across all his albums.

I dig it...definitely better than Lasers to me...not as good as The Cool or the OG FNL...but i rocks with it...I'll prolly do some alteration, take off a couple of tracks and add Double Burger with Cheese and WTF WWJD... still love those tracks, think they would add something to the album...creative with a message without being as overbearing as some of the stuff on here (i laughed at the "buy a camry" bit, Lupe's bordering on Cosbyism at times)

His major flaw as an emcee is that his voice isn't an instrument..Atleast not in the same way as Pac or Scarface.. With him it's more about being a wordsmith...His pen game is sick..So you can't say that you value lyricism and not appreciate this album..But it would probably would be more effective if he delivered it in Ice Cube's Death Certificate era voice..I get that criticism because I felt the same way when I first heard him years ago..But sometimes you just gotta work with what God gave you..
