Not really impressed outside of Mural

Lupe's performance is great, and some of the rapping is next level.....but the beats are average and the songwriting just is not interesting

The best tracks on the album outside of Mural are the 4 seasons instrumental interludes. Those are excellent.

It seems like an album that is more impressive than it is enjoyable. Like Hip Hop prog music. Intellect at the expense of songwriting and musicality.

Its also way too long. I have no problem with 8 minute songs, but there should be a thematic reason for them being so long. These are just long for the sake of being long. On some 'hey, look at me' shyt

The Pizza Man track has a great concept, but is a bit too literal which is off putting. Should have been treated more as a metaphor.

The Chopper song has some interesting writing but is annoying in its execution.

Most of the other stuff has just not been memorable.

I still have 15 more minutes to listen to, I ran out of time.

After first listen, this is the best hip hop album since GKMC/Life is Good and I've listened to those both several times. In a few weeks, we might be calling this in the realm of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

fukking Lupe man

When people say "production and mixing is secondary to lyrics" its funny.

Look at albums like Aquemini, Moment of Truth, Supreme Clientele, Madvillany, most DJ Quik music....you cant really put a "time-stamp" on it. Could be '98, '02, '04, '06 and you really wouldnt know the difference. The music is rich, and ultimately timeless. They sound like modern rap albums, whether dusty or clean, they have that lasting appeal.

Older albums like Enter the 36, Midnight Marauders sound "old" but even still, they have a certain quality that is timeless

I dont think this album is in that category...but its so much closer to that realm than anything Lu has done before, and someone of his skills SHOULD be making that kind of music
Why did you say Aquemini instead of ATLiens?

Wow
It's funny how some say Lupe being too cryptic and they don't wanna decipher ish then others say that one of the biggest bangers is not metaphorical enough
Lupe is not metaphorical enough?? BWAHHAHAAAAAAAA

Breh I don't think you got the song completely, and that's the best thing about the album.

My opinion on the real....

Hip Hop fans got lazy and flooded with too much music that they wanna skip from one song/cd to another way too fast
I would assume that most of these people don't read books, as books require patience as it can take time to read the entire book.
Look how fast even in this thread some were saying they didn't like the album when based on how long it would take them to listen to it vs the time it leaked... it was impossible for them to listen to the entire CD. That means they were skimming through this masterpiece.

So we got lazy hit-seeking "fans" and we got skimmers, and then we wonder what happened to hip hop music?

Ya'll HAPPENED!

There's a thin line between a perfect symmetry of lyricism and production like Aquemini and overproduction and lyrical confusion like Stankonia thou.... Lupe's album DEFINITELY leans more to the Stankonia side... still a dope album, but over-consuming.

Bruh MBDTF is a musical masterpiece, its like the most critically acclaimed hip hop album of all time, all hip hop albums get compared to it when you discussing classics
