Speaking of Dumb It Down, I just heard this shyt for like the second time

I don't understand most of the lyrics....like almost the entire song went over my head

I have never felt dumb listening to a song before, but uh.....

What parts DIDN'T go over your head? lol

You aren't dumb, it's just that two times isn't enough. Nobody "got" that song in full detail in two or even 5 listens.

You ever heard "switch"?

I can't stop playing it, man. It's like Nas, Canibus, Twista, and Mos Def merged into one man. there's nothing Lupe can't do with words. Modern day heiroglyphics and sanskrit combined. :wow:

The album is like a musical matryoshka doll:

Semenov_Traditional_Nesting_Doll_2.jpg

From Wikipedia: also known as Russian nesting doll, refers to a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside the other. The first Russian nested doll set was carved in 1890 by Vasily Zvyozdochkin from a design by Sergey Malyutin, who was a folk crafts painter at Abramtsevo. Traditionally the outer layer is a woman, dressed in a sarafan, a long and shapeless traditional Russian peasant jumper dress. The figures inside may be of either gender; the smallest, innermost doll is typically a baby turned from a single piece of wood. Much of the artistry is in the painting of each doll, which can be very elaborate. The dolls often follow a theme; the themes vary, from fairy tale characters to Soviet leaders.

When you play the album backward, you get the analogy perfectly: each song is a complete statement by itself, but as you continue to play the songs it becomes clear they each fit inside the next, building to a bigger magnificent whole. The other similarities are clear: the artistic intricacy; the layers, the complex representations of gender ("Little Death"), each doll following a theme...

When you play the album forward it's as if Lupe tranformed the rap game into a video game of his own song, and on the final song he beats the entire game... Proceed to the next level, indeed. :damn:

This is the first album I've heard that has quintuple entendres... there are complicated mathematical and linguistic theories boiled down to their essence in couplets... I honestly think someone could write a 250 page book of critical essays on the themes and theories explored on these songs. shyt is just :mindblown:

"Such is life: odd as Egg McMuffins at night..." :ohlawd: Lupe manages to connect inflexible moral codes of love and marriage to the absurdity of time-specific divisions of meals, and the hypocrisy of puritannical values as well as fast food industry practices. "is it slippin' like permission? Am I trippin' like field." Lupe had me feeling like a child again, connecting his confusion over love, religion, and politics to those childhood recollections of school that wash over us like a fever-dream.

The proof that this album is God Level. After the couple weeks of having it....At random times, during random trips in the whip, or before I go to bed I keep catching a new meaning when connecting one bar to another that may have come previously or way after. This shyt is un fukking believable. This is historic for hip hop...and unfortunately it wont be experienced by most. Or maybe that is fortunate? ...I see this shyt really setting off a spark in some young kid that listens to this by mistake. Maybe picking it up off his :flabbynsick: bigger brother or pops dresser....and bumpin it. Then this shyt will kick off a whole new genre of lyrical intricacies in Hip Hop. I hope that happens brehs....WASALU DA GAWD AKA WASALU SAMA AKA LUPE DA KILLA :blessed::blessed::blessed:

That line stuck out its stuck in my head. Yea I like closing the album with that track. That 2nd verse left dust settling after a sword fight :whoo: Lu is the Master Splinter of rap. Maybe a Buddhist Monk of rap. Off this album alone he's unfukkwitable. Still bumping this album every other day. Still can't get to Joey Bada$$ album lol

Listening to Tetsuo and Youth, Lupe basically incinerates the haters and his artistic peers who said something negative about him.

I bet you your rap gods are listening to in private and saying "I can't even turn into this lane"

and there are a lot of rappers who are listening to this lp, realizing how they have been duped, trapped & tormented into performing the level of bullshyt they have become numbed to.

In short, Lupe won…he got off a label, he didn't get his last project on Atlantic shelved & he gets to enter the next phase of his art. Very few artists are able to see that kind of LIGHT & relief..

Meanwhile haters, your FAVORITE artist is doing music he doesn't want to do, that's the DIFFERENCE. I can tell you this, a LOT of artists are envious L.F. can create this and have it released. And just know that artist is thinking "Do I want to be in this space…forever" seeing this and witnessing a artist leaving a place he knows that is toxic to his LIFE.

Maybe the theory of being different and thinking differently is the path to being a better artist? Because it is definitely NOT… doing exactly what everyone is doing & raising your gun at the camera & projecting EXACTLY what the investors want you to do. Because when you do that? You continue the cycle of what is acceptable & permissible.

Lupe basically gunned down every last one of his haters on "Chopper" he can STAND w/ any of your favs.
And just think he is likely just getting warmed up as an artist. :leostare:
