I'm pretty sure on :hamster: you and me were the ones who gave up hip hop when SLR came out :lupe:

lmaoooo

hard to settle on 5, but if i was to pick my personal favorites

1. No Scratches
2. TRON
3. Deliver
4. Dots & Lines
5. Mural

Chopper just missed the cut..that one grew on me alot from the first listen.

Probably the only person I've seen not have Prison 1 & 2 or Body of Work in their top 5 :lupe:.

black love, unity, and music
Current Top 5

1. Mural....:wow: Greatest song in last 10 years. Truly impressive lyrical feat.
2. Body of Work - lyrical breakdown is mindblowing here..."Fourteen broads (Fortinbraghs) like the king of Norway...:wow:"
3. Chopper - can't belive this song is 9 min. Feels like its too short.
4. Little Death- the hook is so fukking hypnotic....
5. Prisoner 1 and 2 - Fantastic song in every way. Truly a standout track

I can't round out top 5 yet, but top 3 would be:

1. Mural (I play this song several times everyday. Feel it's a great way to start or end the day).
2. Adoration of Magi
3. Deliver

So, who's now listening to the album back-to-front as default now?
I go back and forth with it.

If I play it in regular order all the way through, the next time I play it, I play it the other way around.

How many albums can you do this with? I don't recall any

You think so? That woman made me cringe. She was arguing that if she had the choice to either erase 5 centuries of black oppression but erase hip hop or keep hip hop and oppression she'd choose to keep hip hop.

I love hip hop and all but gtfo bytch.

If you listen to what she was saying she wasn't saying she'd choose Hip Hop over oppression she was saying that oppression and struggle are realities of life and to romanticize about an existence otherwise is unrealistic. Most of the black art and ingenuity was birthed out of struggle, pain, strife and sacrifice. We love Hip Hop because it represents a facet of overcoming through harsh climates, ghettos, drugs, violence, and self hate.

It's like me saying I'd choose a billion dollars over working a standard 9-5. Would I? HELL YEAH. Is it realistic? No

I love this record brehs. Never been a big Lupe fan, and cant say I like most of the beats, But I am so intrigued by this record that I am even gonna buy the physical next week. What Lupe did with his songwriting here is other worldly. Lupe created a monster of a record here. Kinda sad you Can't buy a physical copy of Youth & Tetsuo though...

I get the concept of resurrection and the videogame theme when you play the record backwards. But, what is the thema when you play the record in the 'normal' direction? Is there a central theme to be found, comparable to when its played backwards?

Nah I know exactly what she's saying. There is no ideal utopia but what we went through and continue to go through wasn't a necessary evil. They didn't have to do that to us. That's not a part of the regular every day struggle people of all races go through. That was and still is an extreme pain exclusively unique to us, and if I could trade hip hop away so we wouldn't have to go through that I'd do it in a heart beat. We had great music before hip hop and we woulda figured something out.

The way she framed it came off super ignorant and insensitive. I don't fully blame her since the question itself was kinda silly on Lupe's behalf.

I've yet to listen to it backwards. Why does the resurrection and video game theme work backwards brehs?

Going front to back I just see it as extremely layered social commentary that touches upon multiple things at the same time per song. I don't gather much of an overlaying theme.

There's gotta be something behind that "madonna delivered the baby who had the adoration of the magi" though.

I feel the same way. Never was a huge fan but this record is just :wow: I have barely listened to anything else since it leaked. shyt is instant classic to me.

Going forward I think it goes from positive to negative and then reincarnation with TRON. You stay stuck in it until you play it backwards where you win the game, and all the themes go from negative to positive, from reincarnation in TRON to liberation in Murals. It makes sense if it ends in liberation backwards, it would always end in reincarnation the other way. Could be a stretch though :manny:
