The reason I'm leaning towards putting this album ahead of The Cool is because of that High Definition track that was on there...

This album doesn't really have a weak link in it

That's always been the huge flaw with XXL's ratings. Because they don't have the more exact incremental point system like the Source, you really can't gauge where a certain album may have came up short to a reviewer. Like its basically L, XL, and XXL. With the Source at least you have the in between's like 3.5 and 4.5. This album may have been very good to the reviewer but not classic to him/her. So he can't give it XXL so the next below it is XL. If this person reviewed for the Source he could've given it a 4.5.
Yeah I kinda understand.

But if they really felt that way they shoulda shortened one of the other categories to an XL if they didn't feel it was "classic".

I don't understand why people gotta be hating if they don't like the album. Some of you dudes sound like cultists.

I feel the same way about Lupe's lyrical skills as I do about Eminem's technical skills. shyt is impressive from a purely academic stand point but listening to this album I might as well be watching a video like this:

It's educational and kinda :ld: cool but there's no soul whatsoever. Lupe might as well be a machine mashing together thesaurus and Wikipedia entries into bars.

I'm curious, to the people praising this album....did you listen to any underground rap during the 90's? Because there was an entire sub-genre dedicated to shyt like this. I was never personally a fan of it but :yeshrug: knock yourself out.

Fred.

La Petite Mort, my dude :ahh:

Lupe killed this shyt...I don't know if you'll truly appreciate it because it takes a certain effort to understand that damn near everything he says is a metaphor.

This might be one of the most conscious albums i've ever heard that arguably has at least 3 different meanings from the lyrics alone.

coz nas & kendrick were probably on a higher XL & lupe on a lower xl (for the beats)

A 4/5 review for the beats on GKMC and TY are both off. Both albums were flawlessly produced. There is literally not one bad beat on either album. Not one. I understand the rating on LIG since a few of those beats were a little off.

disappointed. Puzzle music for nothing.

Its nothing if you make it nothing. Puzzles only become something if you're interested in solving them. He's definitely saying a whole lot on here over really good music so it's unfortunate to see some so immediately dismissive. That ADHD and lazy nikka syndrome these other rappers have y'all on is something. He's kinda been doing this for 10 years now though so I don't know what you were expecting....Lasers was an anomaly not a norm. He's always had dense, heavily layered content. He just took it to the extreme for this one, and that's what makes this experience most rewarding IMO.

It is what it is though. Nothing is universally beloved. I'm just glad it's getting the critical acclaim it deserves so far.
