Lupe Fiasco says F&LII is NOT a true sequel to F&L, it was "marketing" move

Label politics? In what interview, video, song, or tweet has Lupe complained about Atlantic shoving there fingers in this project? To clear confusion, Lupe's camp wanted it to be named FNL2 for marketing, I'm sure Atlantic didn't force his hand in naming it as Food & Liquor II.

I think its quite obvious Atlantic has backed the fukk away from this album.

In his most recent breakfast club interview at New York's Power 105.1 FM radio station Lupe Fiasco mentioned that Atlantic Records told him that due to him not being in a 360 deal they may or may not market this album properly.

My problem with Lupe, are the parachutes and life jackets he always stays trying to equip himself with to avoid any potential failure.

Is he scared? :yeshrug:

That's a pretty meaningless distinction...rap album sequels have never ever really been anything but marketing and branding meant to invoke nostalgia anyway...the overwhelming vast majority of the time, only thing that connects the sequel(s) to the original album is the name, usually has little to zero bearing on the actual music...non story

I don't know if anybody mentioned it (I ain't reading thru the thread) but isn't that pretty much the case with most hiphop 'sequels' anyway? The Blueprint, The Carter, etc...it's a marketing move, anyway. Take a familiar name from an album people liked, add a number at the end. It's brand recognition.

Lupe was just the only one stupid enough to admit it. :skip:

Naw, that's coming down to how much it sells and the amount of promotion dedicated. Honestly, if people are still making fun of him even if he comes out with a quality album but flops commercially, then its evident that those people are just haters.

Also, I don't get this infatuation with rappers selling out. Holding down your ground commercial wise is overrated to be honest. I couldn't care less if a rapper sells out or not, as long as they keep the influx of good music coming. If the songs start dropping in quality, then that's when I drop the artist out of rotation.
