but what if you dont agree with any of them, should you still vote?

its a free country, you should do whatever the fuk you want, Im just explaining that democracy is more than voting for president every 4 years and democracy doesn't mean everything is gonna be alright

Why can't I hold elected officials to my philosophical ideals?

Why is that wrong? Where does it say I can't do that?

You can, you just probably won't make the best practical decision for the world or yourself if you apply too rigid a litmus test. It's not about your feelings. It's about the people. If you applied the standards that you apply to now to your favorite presidents throughout history like FDR or Eisenhower, you wouldn't have voted for them.

Yeah, but Ron Paul never really had any significant non-statistical outlier support. He just had a small legion of devoted online stans.

As far as the debates go, there's a debate commission that decides who gets to be on them. People like Ralph Nader complain about not being allowed in the debates, and that the debate commission is rigged by the two parties. That could be, but the fact remains that Nader or no other recent 3rd party candidate since Perot has been able to poll at above 1%. I can't really blame the debate commission for not including dudes that poll at 1% and putting on an even platform with dudes polling in the high 40's and low 50's. Someone would have to garner support that could be demonstrated via polls before they be allowed in debates imo.

There is enough media access outside of the big TV networks nowadays for a 3rd party candidate to get exposure and garner support if it's there moving forward. Johnson, Stein, Paul, etc. just haven't resonated. We'll see what Ventura can do if he runs.

honestly I think the outcomes with Perot and Nader have scared people away from 3rd parties

And rightfully so. I've learned my lesson from my Nader vote in Florida, my first time voting in a presidential election. 8 years of Bush smartened me up.

but how can you expect change if you're unwilling to take risks?

I know it's hyperbolic, but where would things like the civil rights movement be if cats just gave up the first time things didn't work out? I think there's a saying about things getting worse before they get better

and why are the songs I want to link to never on youtube :why:

I'm not giving on the prospect of a 3rd party vote altogether. I just won't vote for one right now because it would be useless. The only 3rd party candidate that reflects my views right now I know of is Jill Stein. I live in the largest swing state, FL. I'll be damned if I pull a 2000 Nader redux.

If in 2016, the candidates are Hillary, Christie, and Ventura makes some headway, I'll keep my options open.

Finally a Lupe "rant," I can get behind

I'm against the name callin' & not voting, but, he makes a great point

But, I can only counter him with the fact our mothers/fathers/brothers/sister were beat, soaked, embarassed, hung, bombed, etc in order for us to have this right

Will it solve all our problems? No

But, I can definitely understand how someone in his position (young Chicago native) could be disillused towards the gov't

god I hope Jesse Ventura stays away from presidential race

I mean I know it's an ad-hominem and an appeal to authority, but did he even go to college? ok, looking at his wiki it says he attended some community college, but it doesn't say anything about graduating or for how long. it also said he was in a bike gang after the navy. dude was a pro-wrestler. if that's not bad enough, he was a 'bad guy' professional wrestler. and then of course my beef with him is that he's a kooky conspiracy theorist

I just shutter at the thought that people (not you vic) would think he's anything that resembles presidential material

One of the important reasons why Obama must win in Nov. is that the fruits of his and the Dems labor will really start to bear in the second term. There most likely will be an economic boom in the second term and some of the other big initiatives passed like HCR, Stimulus investments, financial reform etc. will be completed. Hell some of those initiatives are quietly taking effect right now and they aren't fully implement yet.

If Romney wins, he and the GOP will take ALL THE CREDIT for the Dems hard work and the gullible public will believe it. Thats one of the reasons why its important for dummies like Lupe to vote...to see real change in action and not to allow lying, obstructionist POS take credit for someone else's hard work.

The thing about the CRM is that they attacked the issues from all angles. They worked within the system while trying to change it. That's my point. That's been my only point and all this "get worse before it gets better" stuff is crazy. This is people's lives you're playing games with. I'd rather it gets a little better and I work for a long-term solution than to let things get really bad first.

You sound like Ron Paul saying that we should just let everything fail and that "there will be some pain in the interim" but then the market will fix itself. :shaq2:
