The mixtapes with failure on it? Lol.

Lupe was always complex.’only difference now is that Lupe is in a saturated market where ignorance, mumble rap, and stupidity is more endorsed in music. Ie cardi b and migos.

People dont have patience for lupe’s complex rhymes anymore because our patience and attention spans are ruined.

For example These days if you dont drop an album every 4 months you “fell off”.
Don't forget this

The only real difference between then and now is that he's no longer in mainstream favor so a lot of people jumped off the wagon just because.

No shyt Lupe has always been complex but it’s not the same as it was in those days. If you think the style of lyricism the same you ain’t really listening.

Which parts do you find too complex?

I think the majority of this album is pretty much that vintage Lupe lyricism

Ok after a few months digesting i’m gonna go ahead and place this second in his discography right behind The Cool.

There’s just SOMETHING about The Cool that makes it truly and genuinely a unique, one of a kind album. It was Lupe at the HEIGHT of his powers just making classic music. Everything fit like a glove. The beats, lyricism, concepts, flows, the narrative. It all came together perfectly.

With Drogas Waves I wish he woulda pushed the fact that it was a true double album split into two concepts, like really made that fact CLEAR before theabum dropped. I feel like it would’ve been better understood and appreciated had he done that. But thats just me as a fan wanting Lupe’s music to be appreciated.

On a personal feeling. The album is damn near perfect. I just feel like The Cool is truly a transcendent body of work

People was trying to break down the cool back then just like drogas waves is trying to be broken down now.

Only difference is the cool is now old, and already broken down and deciphered at this point.

Lupe being complex was his main appeal, and is why ppl fukked with him in the first place.

People just complain about it now because its no longer cool to like lupe, and nikkas attention spans got shorter due changes in the industry

You fly by night fans turned on him with Lasers is what happened

Lupe still continues to put out music that is meaningful to him no matter how the general public feels about it
Nah I never turned on Lupe still a fan. But his first two albums were magical.

I especially agree with this. Lupe sold the album as some high concept project about a group of slaves escaping their slavemasters, when really that was just the focus of the first disc. While there are callbacks to the overarching theme in the second disc, the lack of true narrative cohesion hinders the overall experience for me. Don't get me wrong, I love 85 to 90 percent of this album, I just wish Lupe hadn't given fans
