I not sure teaming up a point guard with another point guard is considered building around him. They just built in general.

They added 3 and D guys for shooting that don't need the ball.
Kyrie is necessary to take the workload off of him and they swung that deal because Kyrie was to be had at a major discount.

Honestly, this is the same problem I had with Dirk when he got Avery Johnson fired because he didn't play defense.

The difference being we didn’t trade him away, slander nor give up on Dirk after falling short in the playoffs a couple of times. We bought in players like Shawn Marion and Tyson Chandler that could fit in and cover Dirks flaws, and they proceeded to win a championship. Luka is only 25 and not even in his prime, there was plenty of time for him to still improve and bring in players that fit his style of play.

I think this is what people are missing. In order to win a title with Luka, you have to have great rim protection and multiple All-Defense wings to support him on that side of the ball. He can carry an offense and against some teams get away with being a turn style on defense... but Boston put the gameplan and blueprint on tape on how to beat him.

Attack him relentlessly and he'll give up baskets, and then he'll fold mentally crashing out on the officials for not getting calls.

So if Luka was the Mavs main problem to some on here then I expect them to win the finals this year since they made the finals last year and now have gotten rid of the player who was holding them back
