Nah I disagree.. Mick was just Mick, an old broken down washed up former fighter who never reached his full potential who now in old age finds himself working in a decrepit shyt hole gym in a downtrodden blue collar neighborhood in Philadelphia

He's a great character imo.. He calls Rocky a bum because he knows he has talent but no heart and no drive. That was powerful television when he went and begged Rocky to be his trainer and Rocky fronted but deep down he knew he needed dude badly in his corner. and Roc getting a shot at the title reignited the kindle flame in Mick. It woke him back up. He's a vital character cause you can't have a bunch of yes men around Roc.

People forget Mick was a boxer too. That's why they showed one of his old boxing posters that's hanging up on the wall in the gym. That tells a lot. Plus its Philly.. that city is known for booing and shytting and disowning their "own". and most of his hazing on Rocky was a front cause you see when he went to Rocky's crib with his tail between his legs and pretty much begging to be his trainer for the big fight against Creed. that was a great character

-bout to rewatch this on Netflix as we speak
