This is that seperate but equal BS that seams semi popular around these parts as of late.
The issue isn't weather a school is equipped to handle a pregnant girl, you don't need to be equipped for this, it's not like they are handicapped or in need of special treatment, they are pregnant. All around the world women work while pregnant this is no different. Bottom line is this PUBLICLY FUNDED school is denying education to students based on their sex, that is illegal. If there are alternative schools then great, but the choice should be the student's and parent's, not the schools.
funny I didn't read anything about kicking them out of school or ending their pursuit of knowledge. Damn, that sounds like torture to force a pregnant female to work at her own pace instead of being in a constant academic engaged environment, how could they do that, what horrible administrators these b*stards are......If a student is determined to be pregnant and wishes to continue to attend Delhi Charter School, the student will be required to pursue a course of home study that will be provided by the school…Any student who is suspected of being pregnant and who refuses to submit to a pregnancy test shall be treated as a pregnant student and will be offered home study opportunities. If home study opportunities are not acceptable, the student will be counseled to seek other educational opportunities.
Aside from its unconstitutional premise, the charter school’s policy toward pregnant students is also furthering a serious education gap between teen mothers and the young women who do not have unplanned pregnancies. Thirty percent of all teen girls who drop out of high school cite pregnancy as the main reason. And a full 70 percent of teenage girls who give birth end up leaving school — although if New Delhi Charter School had its way, that statistic might be closer to 100 percent.
the school had to reverse their policies today. Once they realized it was unconstitutional.
They changed because of pressure, which is fine, it's a local issue
They changed because of pressure, which is fine, it's a local issue
it would of been a local issue if they weren't taking public money.
