That's my theory too. It dried up and the people moved west into Niger and east into Egypt/Nubia/Ethiopia.

My hunch is there was a civilization in the Sahara and that's where the tales of Atlantis come from.

It's a shame its not studied further. The Sahara had three rivers the size of the Nile. That's fascinating. It had to have been something there.
