Atlantis was a fictional place created by Plato, it's like some people thousands years from now thinking that Mordor was a real place.
did plato speak further into the demise of atlantis
as in their power/energy got outta control
either they fought or blew themselves up

question is do we as humanity have a technological limit?
once we reach a point of great technology we destroy ourselves

if so then what can be done about this issue?
since now we can easily destroy the world
Plato was a thief
Plato got it from Solon, who supposedly heard about it from Egyptian priest, Sonchis of Sais. Contemporary of Socrates, Herodotus mentions Solon traveling to Egypt. Timaeus, and Critias are late Platonic texts concerning Atlantis and refer to Solon long after his death before Socrates. Plutarch, a Platonist, also mentions Solon's time in Egypt in his texts on Atlantis and they always return to Solon and Egypt.

Pre-Socratic Ancient Egypt holds the answer. Solon's life is chronicled, he existed at one point. Plato's use of it is a metaphor, it was only an idea of an ideal then given how far removed he was from Solon's era. Context: about two centuries separate Solon and Plato. Historically, The Republic is a non-factor in determining the truth about Atlantis:
Solon
Pre-Socratics
Herodotus and Socrates
Plato
Plutarch
Since The Republic discussed an Athenian utopia, and Atlantis is mentioned to be antagonistic to Athens there might be unconsidered militaristic elements. The Republic is just as much political philosophy as it is Platonic philosophy. Since Solon was a Greek lawman, geography would make sense for him to be in Egypt during the 26th Dynasty (Sais), after the Nubians. Ptolemaic Egypt and Hellenistic philosophy, Plutarch, bring later clues.

Atlantis could have been a similar place for Egyptians like Thonis-Heracleion:

A prosperous coastal area that was most likely overtaken and sank. What is notable, the goddess Neith is mentioned during Solon's travels and as having a sanctuary in Thonis-Heracleion. Peep Alexandria to the south.

Peep the area missing between Rosetta and Alexandria. Triangulate Rosetta, Sais and Alexandria.

Atlantis sank so the story goes, so it was either in the Mediterranean somewhere or farther west. Ancient Egypt conquered eastward and left Libya alone because it was desert, hard to say where Sonchis heard of Atlantis to tell Solon if it was as far west as Plato says. Atlantis was most likely an island between Egypt and Greece that was an Egyptian outpost unknown to the Greeks at the time. Solon is before Pre-Socratic philosophy, if Egyptians were talking about Atlantis before Solon clearly Egyptian bears strong influence on ancient Greek philosophy.

I was more thinking of from the angle as you say a philosophical discussion
whether they destroyed themselves or nature did it

they were said to be at the heights of technology and knowledge
so either nature always reign supreme
or the human species has a timer of our own doing
"ban guns"
without weapons/knowledge we have less power
more of it more destruction

seems we are hopeless

He makes some valid points when he brings Solon and the priest into the discussion.
I have heard about Egyptians, as far back as Rameses II having knowledge of the Americas specifically the Grand Canyon.
Atlantean colonization inward rather than expansion out of the Mediterranean can also be true.
Him mentioning the Greek Peninsula also clears up the island between Egypt and Greece regarding the geography due to earthquakes and what I also said about Thonis which makes sense about the information being lost.

Reading from Timaeus instead of The Republic is the key.

Lol, seriously. It also ties into his philosophy of platonic ideal. Atlantis was the perfect nation state; ie the platonic ideal of the republic.

Nah, In Plato ancient athens was the ideal republic (merchant/producer class, military class, and philosopher kings in charge - mirrors his three parts of the soul - appetite, spirit, reason) and Atlantis attacked Athens and lost. This caused them to lose favour with the gods (and proved the superiority of Plato's Repubic) and fall into the sea.

And coincidentally he said it got destroyed 9000 years ago from when he wrote about it. Which marked the beginning of the Younger Dryas. :childplease:
