The Internet has been talking, ever since news of Lord Finesse’s $10 million lawsuit against Mac Miller surfaced this week, filed over the young rapper’s sample of the vet’s1995 hit “Hip 2 Da Game.”

While Mac has expressed his shock over the legal action, claiming he spoke to the D.I.T.C. rapper/producer prior to the release of his 2010 mixtape cut “Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza”, Lord Finesse says he’s simply suing for “proper credit and compensation.”

The hip-hop vet says the issue lies beyond sampling. ”I love mixtapes, but this is different. And it’s not a sample,” Finesse said in a statement. “Mac didn’t take a piece of music and create something new. He didn’t transform it into something other than what it was. He just dropped the needle on my record and changed the title.”

He goes on to say he’s attempted to resolve the situation privately, but when he did, he was met with opposition from Mac’s camp.

“Permission was never given. A lot of money was made on my song,” Finesse continued. “At the end of the day, I only stepped to these people for proper credit and compensation. I have done a lot of great things in hip hop and I never wanted a lawsuit. Never. I made every attempt to resolve this. But, when I reached out to these people their attitude was I should be grateful Mac was using my music to sell out concerts because it keeps me relevant. How does it keep me relevant if I’m not being credited or compensated? You’ve heard Mac, you’ve heard a portion of it from me. The truth will come out in court.”

Apparently, after the news hit the ‘net, both sides hopped on the phone to try to hash things out, after which Mac took to Twitter to share the news with his followers.

“I just talked to Lord Finesse. He’s still suing me,” he tweeted (@MacMiller). “To my fans, don’t be disrespectful. Finesse is a legend. If you have a problem with his actions be intelligent about it and be respectful.”

Finesse respondedly shortly after (@LordFinesseDITC): “Wow.. Mac.We spoke trying to resolve the situation.Next thing you back on Twitter.. wow..”

Boo hoo

Too bad. Cac had to pay
I'm not mad at the bolded, just that this set the precedent that we'll probably never get classic beats/samples revisted on a mixtape ever again. I remember shortly after this happened Wiz & Curren$y wanted to drop a tape and they ended up having to sell it because of the sample situation. Fast forward to now and you have "commercial mixtapes" with barely any samples :yeshrug:
