But we also hate pro consoles! And think game budgets need to be scaled back

Are you looking at their actual numbers or are you just boasting about press releases on sales?

The console business has stagnated. Even Sony is exploring other avenues because they see it. They’ve pretty much gotten all the customers they can. From the PS2 Xbox generation to now the high end home console market really hasn’t expended. You hit the mid to upper 180 million range and that’s about all they can get to buy in. It’s been 3 console generations in a row that’s happened.

Operating income declined year over year even as revenue increased. They’re bringing in all this money and their profits are shrinking now because it’s costing so much to generate the revenue.

Their overwhelming success has lead their gaming business to reach maturity. For Sony to continue to grow their gaming business the answer lies somewhere other than consoles.

Hence you see Sony dabbling into an almost Game Pass lite subscription service. Jacking up the price on it. Getting into PC games. Talking about bringing that service to PC. Mobile is next. All stuff that sounds similar to Microsoft’s blueprint.

I think they made their ambition to move past console hardware very public. I know we like consoles here but the reality is even in the best case there's a barrier on the level of growth a company can achieve depending on them.

Between Sony and Microsoft there's about 180 or so million unit sales before things drop off a cliff and hardware stops moving. Even if Microsoft recaptured half of that they've effectively hit the limit of what they can do. They have to look beyond consoles.

Just for clarification sake what the hell is a cac tweet? I've not really placed much emphasis on the race of a person that tweeted something so is there some sort of significance to that vs just a tweet?

A cac tweet is a random persons opinion being posted as gospel just cause they said it and the person sharing it wants to believe it.

Especially since musk has taken over 99.9% of what’s posted on twitter is misinformation and unprovoked opinion. I don’t think anyone who actually wants to be informed about anything should be looking to twitter for that info.

I’ve already said, I’m only arguing that releasing a console in 2026 would be stupid.

I’ve always maintained that xbox is one foot out the hardware game. It doesn’t make sense to release a console in 2026 when the current iteration is already selling so terribly. Releasing more hardware is not going to fix their problem, that is my argument. The fact that some of yall actually think them releasing new hardware earlier is the solution is whats funny
