Funny thing is about 95% of my games since last gen have been digital and I still wouldn’t dare buy a digital only console.

One thing that will suck is losing out on deals on physicals. At least as another option. Beyond that really only the switch benefits from getting a physical since that’s the only one where you don’t have to install.

Yea, it'll be sad to see deals on physical go but the convenience of digital cannot be overstated. Plus, have any of you had to move with a physical collection? Goddamn hassle. That's when I knew I was over them.

PS5 will likely be the last system I buy any discs for.

2018 you could have never told me id be comfortable without the disc. I realized i hated disc when i went to switch games one day and the shyt told me i need to insert the disc.

I agree…at the same time though…
deals on physical copies have been drying up like crazy. Everything was already changing drastically over the last few years with retail stores shrinking their movie and video game shelves but once COVID hit it really cemented the fact that physical shelf space for physical games are hardly necessary at all. I’m gonna cling to physical discs until the bitter end but I’m cool with the fact that the end is right around the corner at this point. Hell, I think out of the 15 or so ps5 games I own 2 of them I have on disc. I don’t think I have a single series x disc. The sales have been decent on digital and discs are staying retail more often than not now. You can still catch a decent deal every now and then, but it’s nothing like it was even 3 years ago.

Wouldn’t even be surprised if there were pro or slim models that didn’t have disc readers at all. I think by next gen they will sell them as external attachments until they phase them out altogether.

The PS5 digital is already slimmer than the one with the optical drive

As it should such an old format that is not needed anymore plus with suBscription services you don’t need a trade in market

Also, the ONLY thing the disc is required for in PlayStation is to prevent game sharing since the game still installs fully to the hard drive
