Y'all have been saying this since 2005 and it's as true then as it is now, AKA never gonna happen. M$ is the biggest publicly traded company on earth and is one of only 3 companies with a trillion dollar market cap; their operating income is anywhere from 5-10x or more of that of Sony's every year. They spend the entirety of Sony's total net annual income as a whole corporation or more on individual purchases on a whim in any given month every year on things like Skype and Linkedin. As someone else pointed out, the expenditure they invest in Xbox and their gaming division isn't even a drop in an ocean for them; they are happy to keep doing it literally forever gradually increasing their installation base to the ultimate goal of their universal service "ecosystem" until Sony bankrupts themselves from their failures in every other division of theirs besides Playstation. They care as much about Xbox's "quarterly earnings reports" as Amazon does theirs; not one single bit because they could operate the division at a loss for eternity and it wouldn't matter to them.
And real talk, the most money they've ever lost on Xbox and their gaming division was back LAST gen with the 360 due to the catastrophe that was the RROD and how much they had to spend on repairs for such widespread hardware failures. If that didn't stop them from continuing to pump money into console gaming then Sony wasting money on timed exclusivity rights to a game that isn't even Call of Duty/Fortnite level revenue generator like Final Fantasy certainly isn't going to. And no, they most certainly CANNOT afford timed exclusivity on Grand theft fukkin Auto; you would literally have to buy Take Two interactive outright to try and get exclusivity rights to that franchise. MS could do that if they wanted to waste money... Sony doesn't have that same capital luxury.
