It wasn't supposed to be the ending. They just made it such when they knew they were getting canceled. The show was supposed to end with Steve and Laura's wedding (and I guess Eddie was supposed to come up as a cop and get engaged to Greta), but CBS gave up on remaking TGIF. They left a lot of shyt open ended. The same shyt happened to Full House except they pulled the plug before they thought about changing networks (otherwise, Full House woulda wound up every bit as stupid as Family Matters)

After ABC cancelled Full House, the WB was in negotiations to produce a ninth season. They were going to have Full House be the established sitcom in their lineup. ABC cancelled Sister, Sister around the same time and the WB picked it up also.

But by that time, the cast was over it. Candace Cameron was going to college so she wasn't going to be in that many episodes, and John Stamos didn't want to continue so the negotiations didn't go anywhere.

I don't even remember how old I was but at some point, Family Matters jumped the shark and even though I still watched it, I felt ashamed to watch it.

I remember one time my dad walked in and I just shrunk to let him see me watching this absolutely ridiculous and stupid episode.

I honestly don't know how it stayed on tv as long as it did, cause those later seasons were atrocious.

Had minimal work after family matters and streaming destroyed the type of money these actors and actresses were making from syndication runs. Some of them pulled off successful reboots most of them don't. Tough spot to be in.
I’ve noticed that for the most part, a lot of the Family Matters cast didn’t do much outside of the show, which is why they’re always doing mini-reunions or speaking to magazines about the show.

Its funny because Waldo had a mini-Urkel type run. Dude went from the bullies sidekick to the opening credits. nikka even got to be Eddies best friend and a date with Laura before Steve.
