I wasnt really a fan of the show so I was surprised to find out that Family Matters lasted longer than the Cosby show and The Fresh prince of bel air

The Fresh Prince ended because Will ended it the Cosby Show ended because Cosby ended it. Family Matters ran probably 2 years over but CBS tried a TGIF block.

It didn't so much last longer in a traditional sense. Will wanted to end fresh prince. Infact he tried to end it a year earlier than it did because he was ready to move on. Cosby wanted to end The Cosby Show. That shyt could have come on for many more years otherwise. With Family Matters it got one year extra because CBS was desperate to build a successful Friday night lineup. They probably should have ended 2 seasons earlier than it did.

Yea i mean the show changed course and was built around Urkel cuz thats what the rantings wanted still no reason to bring his family into the show,the goofy neighbour sitcom has been around forever its not exactly a black sitcom specific thing as was being said...he turned out to be the star and they made the show the way it was....thats all there is to it.

He had family and we met multiple members (Myrtle, Una from Altuna, Myrtle daddy, OGD). His parents were the "spoken about but never seen" cliche. We even saw Myra mama.

Urkel was a pop culture phenomenon. Thats what gets you remembered moreso than quality. The GOAT shows combine both (Cosby, Sanford, All in the Family etc).

Had minimal work after family matters and streaming destroyed the type of money these actors and actresses were making from syndication runs. Some of them pulled off successful reboots most of them don't. Tough spot to be in.
