I've just watched Wrestlemania I through VII thanks to self isolation and can confirm that Hogan was the biggest, snidest c*nt of a fake babyface wrestling ever knew.:scust:

The crowd knew it in a lot of places too. :usure:

The Mega Powers Explode story line was great - but they tried their absolute best to ruin it by weakening Savage over and over - Savage was becoming babyface naturally way before WMIV, but the tournament and Hogan's time off came at a good time for them to go with it... once he had the strap, they could build all the heat they needed for WMV solely from Macho getting jealous over Elizabeth and Hulk's relationship and treating Liz like shyt. He played that shyt SO WELL (because he was only half playing it) and the crowd ate it up because they absolutely fukking adored Elizabeth... like in a way no woman in wrestling has been loved since.

The match SHOULD have come down to Macho being distracted by the Elizabeth issue and not being on his game. Instead they had Hulk beat him decisively and, frankly, EASILY... they blew up the on-screen Macho/Elizabeth storyline (ok, we got some GOOD Sherri stuff out of it) probably signing the death warrant for their marriage (and her life eventually), it ruined Macho as any sort of title contender until WMVIII (oh, look, the second Elizabeth's back at WMVII he's top billing again despite being 'retired')... Kings Court vs Hacksaw's 4x4s at Survivor '89? :mjcry: Mixed tagging with Sherri against Dusty and Sapphire at WMVI? :mjcry:

Hogan is, was and always will be scum.:pacspit:Even during COVID it's :pacspit: on sight.

Savage NEVER beat Hogan clean.....EVER.

Think about that shyt for a second, all of the matches they had and not once did Randy ever get a clean win. (he won a couple by DQ and countout)

It's one the great travesties in the history of the business, and its not only the fact that Savage never got a clean win but also how many of Randy's title reigns were ended by Hogan? He just couldn't help himself, the way he seemed to go out of his fukking way just to bury Savage was completely ridiculous and petty, especially when they were in WCW, IMO.

In the WWF, I thought most of the stuff was fine. Hogan was the biggest draw in the business and deserved to be on top I have no problem with that, he was a fukking cash machine back then.

WMIV storyline was fine. Vince wanted the belt on a babyface so Savage was chosen. The story of the match with Dibiase was fine, Andre kept interfering so Mach has Liz go get Hogan to even up the sides and prevent futher interference from Andre, makes perfect sense.

The Mega Powers storyline is one of the GOATs in wrestling history, I only have minor gripes with its execution. First, I would've done the split differently and made sure it was Savage who come off as the heel and acting all ridiculous. They way they did it made Hogan look heelish IMO and that's definitely not what they were intending. Also I would've had Savage retain the title at WM5 via some sort of fukkery, let Hogan chase through the summer then win it at Summerslam. But those are small tweaks, that storyline is legendary.

Hogan always buried Savage's finish which I hated. You shouldn't bury someone finish like that, especially a top guy like Randy Savage, it was so bad that Savage actually played off of it by giving Hogan a flying elbow to wake him up.......and it worked, Hogan popped up immediately no selling the whole thing, SMH.

The.
Worst.

Man that Wrestlemania 4 finish made Savage look like a paper champion.

The proper way to handle it would’ve been to have Hogan come out and take out Andre. Instead he hit MDM in the back with a chair while he had his finisher on Macho and the ref wasn’t looking. Then he hogged the spotlight in what should’ve been Macho’s moment and literally handed him the belt. Made Savage’s victory weak... especially for a 1st time champion.

Nah... reading a lil far into it...

The Savage Mania IV shyt wasnt about Hogan droppin it to Macho... it was set up for DiBiase to transition it to Macho. They had already linked Hogan and Macho months before.

The whole Megapowers storyline was one of the greatest storylines ever, I dunno why people always wanna retcon it and change it from the way it went. You needed the Hogan/Macho combo to happen the way it did so they could go thru the story and split apart.

And I'm def. not capin' for Hogan but the shyt was classic and led to a great Macho heel turn... there ain't a lot about this shyt I'd change.
If Hoegan didn’t want to drop the belt to Macho, why didn’t he drop it to DeBiase then? That whole Andre winning a crooked victory when Hogan kicked out at 2 then trying to sell the belt to MDM then having a tournament crown the winner reeks of Hoegan politicking.

I agree with you.

I was talking about how it made sense for Hogan to be at ringside, the better way to do it would've been Hogan takes out Andre and Virgil allowing Savage to win the match clean. You're right, having Hogan hit Dibiase with a chair weakened his victory.

I think you have to watch the whole thing as it played out to get all of this... just watching the SNME and Mania doesnt lay it out.

DiBiase was the one that began the whole storyline by saying he was gonna buy the title... not win it... buy it. Because this was his whole gimmick, that anything and anyone can be bought.

Meanwhile, theres still an ongoing controversy about Mania III, Heenan and Andre are contesting that Andre got the 3-count on Hogan early in the match. That had been going on since the week after Mania, which of course setup an eventual rematch.

So then when Hogan refuses to sell the title to DiBiase... DiBiase employs Andre to win it from him.

Then, the screwjob thing happens, which takes the title from Hogan and has the evil heel DiBiase getting what he wants.

Then, "Tunney" strips DiBiase of it because he did not earn it

Two weeks prior to Mania, DiBiase def. Savage by countout due to Andre interference,

Tournament set up... DiBiase interferes in Hogan/Andre match with a chair, leading to both Hogan and Andre using it and being DQ'd... while DiBiase is progressing to the finals. Andre has been helping DiBiase win.

So... in the finals, DiBiase's actions come back to haunt him... Savage, who's been getting legit clean wins the whole tourament (and has been friends with Hogan for months).... has Hogan come out as an equalizer...

Hogan, who's been fukked out of the title by DiBiase... fukks DiBiase over in the end. Savage wins the title.

Now sure, this is 80s "message" stuff where the bad man who tries to cheat his way to the title loses to the good guys in the end... but I mean... it was the era.

Long story, but it's storytelling... and it establishes The Megapowers as a unit. Sure, it could've just been a one on one match with no backstory where Savage just wins it on his own... but I'd say in hindsight, the Savage/Hogan dynamic (as partners and eventually enemies) made '88 and '89 great... which is why I don't get why folks are so dead set about wishing it DIDN'T happen, lol.

Ok, but do you really think that was the original plan or was this Hoegan doing his usual Hoegan politicking bullshyt?

The WWF wasn’t really for convoluted title vacations back then, and you said they were trying to build up DeBiase.

So they’re trying to build up both DeBiase and Savage but neither of them gets a W over Hogan for the belt? Something’s not adding up, brother.
