Not gonna act like the 82-75 scores were fun but some of the art in the game has been lost because of this. :francis:

Oh, no. It was awful. A lot of tall dudes who did nothing during the 90s - mid 00s just bc they could "guard" shaq, Hakeem, Duncan, etc. Backing down a dude in the paint for 20 seconds was painful to watch. On the other hand, watching dudes who shoot 3s and do nothing else also sucks.

Bad offenses that jack up 3’s suck, but the good ones have nonstop motion. To me that’s so much more fun to watch that a team taking 12-20 seconds trying to set up a post play for a mediocre or even a good big man that ends in an off balance 12 foot fade-away or a jump hook that has no chance of going in. The funny thing is that Duncan, Hakeem, or Shaq types on offense could absolutely feast in today’s league with the spacing we have on some teams. Shaq for example was a fantastic passer in the way of hitting a man cutting to the rim and on outlet passes, even when he was :flabbynsick: in Cleveland. He’d get targeted a lot for his perimeter and P&R defense today, but with the motion and spacing of today, getting to watch his offense would be :banderas:

I remember back in the early 00s when the Mavericks and Kings would score 110 points but it felt like they "earned" it.

Now, it's like watching Prime Brady go against a defense with only 9 people.

If you're a "great" shooter (50-40-90 club, or close to it), it makes statistical sense to shoot 3s.

Let's say Steph took 100 shots, all 3s and hit 35%. That would equal 105 points (100 x 0.35 x 3pts/shot). If he makes 52% of his 2s, that's 104 points.

Basically, the only way shooting mostly 2s makes sense is if your 3pt shot is absolute garbage or if you can make high 50s to 60%+ on 2s.

The lack of defense means it's easier to be efficient from behind the arc. If the defensive rules made scoring more difficult, people would revert back to more of a post/midrange game.

Also, there are dudes that aren't really great shooters period and the difference between their 3pt accuracy and 2pt accuracy is relatively small...might as well chuck it up. Definitely true when you watch college games. Dunk, layup, missed foul shots and 3pt shots.

Wow a few teams. You're really gonna pretend almost everyone ain't jacking 3's now. I mean even NBA players and coaches have states this but I guess you know better huh. Greg Pop has said the same thing but he's wrong also huh?
Teams have different offenses my guy.

You can’t say Philly’s motion dribble handoff based system is comparable to high P&R and isolation sets from Houston, or what Milwaukee does with the 5 out and strong series for example.

Threes are more efficient than long two’s it is what it is :umad:

This graph is exaggerated anyway and has no context plenty of players keeping the midrange alive :shaq2:

No, it isn’t. People say this dumb shyt and isn’t true. The Bucks don’t play like the Rockets, The Rockets don’t play like the warriors, The Nuggets don’t play like the 76ers, etc.

Just because teams shoot threes doesn’t mean they come across them the same way.

It all ends up the same.

Games where each team is slinging up a combined 50-60 3s a night

I didn't say teams ran the exact same offense bruh. I said the emphasis on the 3 ball has fully engulfed the league and everyone is shooting more trey balls. You're trying to flip it now and say I said everyone runs the same offense. I was saying basically in a sense of the importance of the 3 and everyone looking for stretch bigs now. Basketball is about flow anyway you shouldn't be out there like a robot avoiding long 2's just because of some dumbass analytics. If you're open for a long 2 you should shoot it.

Stole this from @I.V. on twitter...

I think we all have seen this with our eyes, but this chart just takes it home brehs.

Did they make team by team diagrams also? That would make things really interesting.

At least shot selection is more even now. So many shots used to be taken on the right side.

Why shoot an open long 2 now when you know you can get a open 3 two seconds later? Even children understand delayed gratification.
