What the marlins payroll look like when they won those chips?

$48,417,500.......15 years ago

7th largest payroll in Baseball that year.Of course, the Yanks were #1 at 59 mill.

I think the whole "Marlins buying a WS" thing is overblown. They made some nice moves and signed a couple of big names, but they were wise with there selections.Made some good under the radar signings like Craig Counsell.Dude was a bum when it came to natural talent, but he was gritty and clutch as it gets. One of my favorite "under dog" players of all time...any sport

My bad i thought they had low payrolls both times they won.
In 2003 the payrolls looked like this.

1 New York Yankees 180,322,403
20 Florida 63,281,152

I was tryin to say that you can win without handing out shyt loads of money.
That marlins scouting team is nasty.

Lol, you fire the coach ... because the team does horribly after trading away their top players.

To be fair Mills was a horrible manager for this team. Instead of letting guys go out there and learn he was managing like he was in a playoff race. There's no reason there should be a different lineup out there every night. Guys need a chance to play everyday and grow, and Mills was stunting their development with his managing style. It was time for him to go.

Drayton got spoiled by the Astros starting slow and surging back into the race a few times ... he seemed to think that would be the norm :manny:

Yeah Crane is taking all of the heat, but this falls on Drayton. His reluctance to rebuild the farm system set this team back years. The future should be bright though. Right now all of minor league clubs are a combined 60 games over .500, we should have the number one pick in the draft for the second year in a row, and Luhnow has made some good moves in his short time as GM.

outta here with that salary cap.People act like the Yankees win a WS every year.Even with a salary cap no free agents would go to a Kansas Cty or Houston. Face it nobody wants to go to a rebuilding small market team.If you got good pitching you are always a contender, year in and year out.

See the is the shiit that gets me...you got teams like the Yanks, Sox, and Phils that have to pay a luxury tax to these bum asss franchises and what do the owners do? They pocket the money instead. Selig needs to make it mandatory that the luxury tax money goes into payroll...not greedy ass owners' pockets
