Hov did the exact same shyt tho

all first and second generation Roc-A-Fella singles/albums..etc. featured Jay-Z

even a ton of Roc Nation/post-Roc acts too

he was on Hustlin with Ross....Umbrella, Rihanna, Saigon, Cole's album.

Dont be fooled, Hov supported damn near everyone....he just did it on his terms.

Also, 50's artists all garnered a cult following.
You're talking remixes....not initial roll out singles. The songs got hot on their own and he jumped on.

Hov... and myself repeating him, said two very specific things..

1. that he wasn't going to be on all his artists FIRST SINGLES. he wasn't on beans first joints, bleek, young guns, state prop, freeway, etc.. he'd get on the album somewhere yea.. maybe a single. maybe a remix.. but it wasn't going to be the jay-z and friends release package with every artist.

2. at the same exact time in history, 50 cent was on the first single for every single one of his artists.. Lloyd banks first single on fire was 50 on the hook.. on his next album his first two singles would have 50 on them.. young buck first single "let me in" had 50 on it.. game's first single "how we roll" 50 on it, plus another single later.. yayo first single had 50 on it..

jay wasn't going to do that.. now we can argue about what was better.. every single g-unit artist went plat except yayo who did 900k. so it was working. but every body was just 50 cent's man to the public and it fizzled out by 2006, when banks would only do 300k with 2 50 cent lead singles. yea they still nice and have a following. but what did 50 even say about them? that he held their hands for so long, they never knew how to keep it going when he wasn't there to help. teach a man to fish vs giving him fish

We can also say that G unit main members are way more relevant and active than all of the roc members. 50 set his team up nicely by having them so close

Looks like a pre-planned meeting Jay stumbled upon maybe on his way to another meeting so he stopped in to show respect..Cass was giving the gist of the meeting and Jay kept it moving..

why would he stay for a marketing meeting he wasn't prepared to discuss they'd waste so much time trying to get Jay up to speed ....jay has people to do that for him (brief him on things at roc nation) each morning ..so he'll find out what happened in that meeting another time....not to mention people were recording and jay isn't comfortable around that shyt...you rarely even see him in snapchats or ig stories...

You cant single out 50 because no other artist did that...unless Jay was speaking directly in reference to 50. Plus, Jay wasn't actually in a group with his artists. It was G-Unit and 50 was the leader of the Unit. Either ways, whether or not 50/Jay whoever was on anyone's singles, people were going to be lazy eventually. Thats the name of the game.

Game had a 50 Cent first single and still managed to do numbers after G-Unit. Lloyd Banks eventually had a platinum single in Benz or Bently. The list goes on for the amount of Roc A Fella artists who couldnt keep the torch burning.

It really sucks how pretty much all interviews in the 90s are lost. Nobody uploaded old source or xxl mags. shyt you can’t even find some old internet articles or video interviews. Jewels and history was dropped on a regular basis in those interviews and memory is the only way to go

I say that cause I wish I could find the exact quote. He was definitely talking directly about 50 cent only. It was someone on his label, I wanna say a Bleek, who was bout to drop. And they was asking Jay why he didn’t give the alley oop to his artists. Like why he wouldn’t just hop on their first singles, give them that stimulus package, and keep doing it every time. He’s never on a first single. He never intros his artist with the handoff feature. And his reply is what I typed.

So when you see cass getting the brush off, it’s just how jay does it. He’ll sign you. Ok the signing. Whatever. He’ll stop by and say some shyt. But you on your own buddy. Bring him some fire and he might bless you on an album cut. Produce some sales and he might bless you on a remix. But “hey you’re our new artist so here’s your cookie cutter jay z single”........ hell the fukk nah
