Hov... and myself repeating him, said two very specific things..
1. that he wasn't going to be on all his artists FIRST SINGLES. he wasn't on beans first joints, bleek, young guns, state prop, freeway, etc.. he'd get on the album somewhere yea.. maybe a single. maybe a remix.. but it wasn't going to be the jay-z and friends release package with every artist.
2. at the same exact time in history, 50 cent was on the first single for every single one of his artists.. Lloyd banks first single on fire was 50 on the hook.. on his next album his first two singles would have 50 on them.. young buck first single "let me in" had 50 on it.. game's first single "how we roll" 50 on it, plus another single later.. yayo first single had 50 on it..
jay wasn't going to do that.. now we can argue about what was better.. every single g-unit artist went plat except yayo who did 900k. so it was working. but every body was just 50 cent's man to the public and it fizzled out by 2006, when banks would only do 300k with 2 50 cent lead singles. yea they still nice and have a following. but what did 50 even say about them? that he held their hands for so long, they never knew how to keep it going when he wasn't there to help. teach a man to fish vs giving him fish
