How does being independent work? I see other artists claim to be independent all the time and their new records appear on the Apple Music browse section when you scroll to new albums
With Banks, you gotta look his shyt up… if you ain’t personally checkin for Banks, you wouldn’t know he’s still droppin
He’s A1 with the lyrics on here and he sounds clearer than his other recent releases.. he should make this more noticeable but I know he don’t have the Hovain leverage anymore
independent just means that you have to do everything yourself. You have to market your music, fund the artwork, the recording, the mixing, the mastering, and you have to fund the costs for features, production, etc. Independent artists can still be really big, but they just don't have a major label assisting them with promotion, funding the music, etc.
You can be independent and be almost unheard of or you can be independent and be really big. And on the flipside, you can be signed to a major and be huge, or you can be signed to a major and be small (think all the folks signed to Interscope or Shady over the years that stayed unknown).
In general, when you're independent you generate less income, but you get to keep a lot more of it. Major label artists may bring in more dollars, but the trade off is they get to keep less of the pie.
