He was asked the MT Rushmore of Def Jam

Left off DMX, Kanye and Jay Z.. I get leaving off Nas. Nas was best with Sony.

Mt. Rushmore mean 4 slots so he 100% right.

That would be LL, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy and Slick Rick. They established the combination of artistic credibility and commercial success that Def Jam was known for. Without them Def Jam don't even exist in the era of DMX and Jay much less Kanye.

Licence to Ill was more important for Def Jam album than any Jay album.

Def Jam's pinnacle was the 80s so it's completely acceptable to just name golden age artists.

They built Def Jam and made it the label that rappers wanted to sign to. They're the reason they beat out labels like Tommy Boy and Profile.

Jay, Ye, and X don't get on Mount Rushmore over any of the older generation. Plus the Rocafella artists repped the Roc more than Def Jam.

This the logic that ruined hip hop. :francis:

Used to be by far the most lyrical form of popular music, now it's just another form of bullshyt pop to most the audience.

Song structure is song structure

Rappers who followed those rules became popular since the 70s

Genre was better when rappers and fans was more concerned about 48+ hot bars than a chorus for Top 40 radio :yeshrug:

Nobody cared BIG ain't write or perform the hook for Juicy. Nobody "deducted points" for that. We cared about the verses.
