No real Hip Hop head ever thought Run DMC was ever on Def Jam. We all knew it was Russell who ran Def Jam and also had RAL aka Rush Associated Labels. Russell was Run DMCs manager but Run DMC was always on Profile. That's basic Hip Hop 101. Looking at what label a rapper was on was a thing back in the day because we'd study the album cover or tape insert after we brought it home.

Jay’s Def Jam tenure was underwhelming as hell quality wise. Kanye wasn’t a Def Jam guy long enough, neither was Nas, so LL is right about not having them up there.
