ATHENS — Corey Raymond, one of LSU’s most renown recruiters , is reportedly on the UGA campus this weekend interviewing with Georgia football coaches.

That’s according to a report by LSU.Rivals.comon Saturday, which says the Tigers’ cornerbacks coach is due to remain in Athens through Sunday.

Raymond is considered the Tigers’ No. 1 recruiter ever since he joined the staff in 2012. Raymond reeled in cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., the No. 1 prospect in the nation as an early signee in LSU’s most recent class. He’s known in Louisiana as “the Godfather of DBU.”

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart currently has openings for a secondary coach and/or a defensive coordinator and for a tight ends coach on the offensive side of the ball. It’s an unclear whether Smart would offer the coordinator’s position to Raymond. At LSU, he shares defensive backfield duties with safeties coach Bill Busch and reportedly defers a lot of the on-field coaching responsibilities to Bush.

Raymond, who will turn 50 in July, currently earns $410,000 annually at LSU, according to the USA Today college football assistant coach data base. That’s sixth on the LSU staff and 205th in the nation. Raymond is in the last year of a three-year contract he signed in 2016.

Georgia is looking to replace Mel Tucker, who made $1.5 million as the Bulldogs’ defensive coordinator and secondary coach. He left to become head coach at Colorado. Georgia had outside linebackers coach Dan Lanning, 32, and inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann, 28, handle the coordinating duties for the Sugar Bowl. Former Alabama and Oakland Raiders secondary coach Derek Ansley has also shown interest in the Bulldogs’ positions.

Meanwhile, there are also reports that former Georgia graduate assistant and offensive analyst Todd Hartley has had contact with the Bulldogs about their tight ends vacancy. Hartley is currently out of work after serving as Mark Richt’s tight ends coach at Miami the past three years.

The Bulldogs promoted James Coley to sole offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on Friday after talking to several candidates about that joining the staff either as a co-coordinator or tight ends coach.

Raymond needs a raise
Our head coach's salary is so low, we probably would have no problems matching. But it's all good though... Coach Raymond deserves better than just being a cb coach. If he does leave, it would hurt but Busch is good too and a solid recruiter. We would be able to let him coach the dbs and our finally hire a qb coach. Corey Raymond is a good recruiter but these rumors of him leaving every single year hurt us last year... I would be happy for him if he left to get his well overdue raise and/or promotion. It is what it is.

They better they went all out for Aranda last year
We had no choice. We would have been screwed having to bring in a new co-ordinator on both sides. Our head coach can't really coach either side of the ball and our defense carries us and that's a nice way to put it. Honestly, if Aranda was that type of person, he could force Coach O out and take over if he wanted to.

the thing that I think will keep Raymond is that Sonny Shipp said theres a big rule with boosters that if you leave for another SEC school then you pretty much are cutting all ties with that program, if CR loves LSU as much as we think he do that'll play a huge factor.

:ohhh: I never knew that. But we are going to pay the man. This is all about negotiating a new contract and getting a raise.

Shipp just gave an up basically reiterate what was said about leaving to another SEC school, CR being interviewed for the DB coaching spot and that he wants more responsibility. LSU will offer him a raise and “future offers” what ever that mean but we’re not goin to match UGA if they offer him 800k. Basically it’s all up to Raymond.

For Georgia fans who were worried about depth at wide receiver for this season, this was a game-changing week.

On Friday evening, Miami grad Lawrence Cager announced on Twitter that he was transferring to UGA. Earlier in the week, longtime Auburn 5-star commit George Pickens flipped to the Bulldogs on Wednesday’s signing day.

Who is Lawrence Cager? He’s a 6-foot-5, 220-pounder who was Miami’s second-leading receiver this past season, while also catching a team-high six touchdown passes. He made 18 career starts for the Hurricanes, and he’ll be eligible to play immediately at Georgia.

Cager’s tremendous size gives the Bulldogs a major weapon in the red zone. He also provides some much-needed depth, as junior receivers Mecole Hardman and Riley Ridley departed early for this year’s NFL Draft.

This is the second commitment from a graduate transfer in as many days for UGA. On Thursday, Tennessee tight end Eli Wolf announced he was headed to the Bulldogs.

The rich get richer
