Think he’s saying he doesn’t appreciate that AZ acts like he wasn’t tripping off tryna get on in rap when in reality he was rapping to him on the phone every night desperate for a deal. Not sure though

THIS ...

nikkaS IN THIS THREAD
ACTING VERY DENSE...

AZ REPEATEDLY SAID
HE WASNT TRYING TO GET ON
KNOWING HE WAS BLOWING
THIS MANS PHONE UP
WITH ACAPELLA RAPS
UNTIL HE REACHED OUT
AND FOUND HIM A MANAGER.

That's not what stoute said though he was more disrespectful than that

He said he wasn't talented enough which is crazy. Stoute thinks everybody is meant to be jay z or biggie.
Az did enough to be a rap legend a got a classic, a handful of good albums and he still able to tour. There's a lot of his peers who didn't even have a one hit wonder.
Could he have been more successful, yes, but if that's enough for him, that's all it matters.
And Stoute have some nerve considering he nearly killed Cormega's career who managed to thrive regardless. Being talented ain't enough in the entertainment

Some of that is just luck and timing and luck too. AZ for sure was meant to be bigger, but some of those label situations weren't right. There was a sample clearance thing on HEY AZ, and Mariah came out with Honey, at the same time. Hey AZ got scrapped. The single for Pieces of A Man was some shyt no one remembers. The single for Nine Lives was perfect, but probably a year or so too late, and label didn't have a crazy budget.

AZ also chased trends, sometimes too late to make an impact. He didn't set them. Or try to.

just read that HEY AZ was the single, and didn't even appear on the album. That's a disaster for an artist in 1998.

Im gonna revisit AZ first 3 albums before I drop my 2024 opinion on his career. Aziatic is his fourth album and my fav one.. after that album..eh

I wanna say yall cape too much for his music. But Imma revisit and be fair.
AWOL was dope IMO, but to me he is hit or miss on albums as you said. I did like his first three though so I agree with you on that. He had a run of a few albums in the late 00s I really did not like much at all (G.O.D and another one I forget the name). Overall though I would say I am a fan.
