Lil Wayne can rap, he’s really good at just rapping…but everything else that makes an artist great and their music timeless and all that…no way. I was saying during his reign that this shyt is straight for teenagers lol, this is teenager music and content. Now it seems like more and more people are seeing that, probably after trying to revisit it as adults now.

I think grown people who grew up on prime Wayne and have nostalgia for him still hold him in high regard.

But, overall, Wayne's not really a good gateway artist for someone who doesn't have that nostalgic bias. I even noticed that Gen Z kids who grew up in a post prime Wayne era don't really stan him like that and, if they do, it's because of articles/videos detailing how influential he is or the Drake connection more than anything else.

The youth on Tik Tok and other social media actually seem to prefer classic 90's hip hop(Pac, Biggie, Tribe, Wu Tang,, etc.) over Wayne's old music which is kind of funny and ironic because you'd think be the other way around especially due to the fact Wayne is still able to catch a buzz. The youth today also seem to prefer Kanye over Wayne by a decent margin.

I think Wayne is a great punchline rapper and mixtape artist.......almost like a more marketable and Southern version of Fabolous with more charisma/personality but his actual albums contain very little timeless music that can be passed on for generations or stand the test of time. Only Carter 2 has a case for being a classic off the music alone(sales be damned) but Carter 3 was a lot of casual's gateway to Wayne and that album has not aged well outside of a few songs and Carter 4 was even worse.

Without the timeless catalog, Wayne's legacy is kind of in a rock and a hard place because Wayne's rapping style alone(which has been done by many other emcees like Banks, Big L, Fab, Juelz, Ludacris, hell.....Big Sean) and mixtape catalog(which is good but slightly overrated) can only do so much to make up for the lack of timeless albums. Maybe his feature run will do some heavy lifting for him too though.

I think if they do this ym/cmb tour where

Hotboys Wayne
Carter 2/3 Wayne
Drake/Wayne

All comes together as 1..

It will "rejuvenate" his standing...

Bad career moves have made things difficult as well

Most overrated rapper in history. Damn shame he’s considered a legend to certain folks. Aside from the Hot Boys group, he’s only a legend due to longevity and sheer volume of music. It’s like kids that get perfect attendance all throughout school. Awarded for simply existing.
I really confused how he blew up over Juvy. Juvy put them on the map. Lil Wayne is and always will be a trash rapper.

I was listening to Lil' Wayne in 7th grade, I had the Hot Boys albums, and then kinda phased out, til he came back with '500 Degreez', which, though not highly regarded elsewhere, in my group of friends, it became a kind of classic that summer, and the next. Then, "The Carter" dropped, and that was like US at the time, the flows, the bars, the beats, the concepts, it was a classic, at the moment, and I think holds up over time. Carter 2 was the same way, though it took me a few years to appreciate that album as much, as my circumstances had changed much, by late 2005. His best run was 04-07, the beginning of the end was "Carter 3", which shaped the rest of his career, sloppy, unfocused, self indulgent.

He is now a singular embarrassment, to both himself, the career he had, and the entire genre in general, not to mention as a person, whom I have come to loathe, for his immaturity, apathy, and lack of qualities found in any respectable person.

damn I was doing too much here lol

but yeah, haven't listened to Wayne since around 2009, with any regularity or interest. Few songs here and there from Carter 5. Mostly just Drake collabs. He hasn't changed as an artist in like 15 years. C3 was his peak.
