If he had fled to Italy, he would have been extradited with quickness. Very few countries that can provide comfortable living without having to worry about being extradited. And the feds can wait, and they will always win. The moment he flees, his accounts are going to be frozen. Plenty of guys have been on the run for years, and they get caught.

Those days have long gone, in the 80s and even the 90s it was easier to flee. But now things have changed significantly, which means it is easier to track a fugitive.
