I can’t speak specifically to the black community, but in general, that concept relates to when one or both parents aren’t present in a child’s life and or the parents need additional support (whether it’s economic, in the form of spending time with or providing resources to education etc). In this case, I don’t think this is the case and I’m confident the parents have access to the best of the best they’ve consulted with to help them navigate this situation. It takes a village means giving support/lending a hand and not just giving an opinion.... that’s just called being judgmental from the outside.

Yah I can’t speak to that. I think it’s great for adults to look out for children to help keep them safe. Of course, if you see a child in danger the human reaction is to be protective and helpful. There’s a lot of complexities in this case and the parents are being supportive and loving. The idea of gender is a social construction. Nothing they are doing is leading to permanence. If the child is “confused” and mistaken as people claim, then she will naturally revert back to identifying as a male in later years, wearing “male” clothing and called by male pronouns. They’re not moving forward with gender reassignment surgery or any permanent decisions. Most people naturally cannot relate to the hows and whys of identifying with your assigned gender so we aren’t in a position to judge someone who is experiencing this. I do believe that we know certain things from a young age. I knew I was a straight female since a young kid and thankfully have always related to it. So if I was certain of this growing up and at such a young age why is it hard to believe someone wouldn’t be certain of the opposite? Being a straight female wasn’t a permanent decision I made at any point in my life, it’s just how I’m built.
