It Was Written >>>>> LAD. And I LOVE Biggie, like Biggie is my heart
Respect your opinion...and I'm probably the biggest Nas enthusiast in the world and think Nas is much better than Biggie...but to my ears aint no way IWW is better than LAD.

I won't say it's a different league entirely, they're both great heavyweight albums...it's just 90% of the songs on LAD are all-time classics and/or hit records and absolute fire. The rap "Thriller" bruh, for real

I can't rock with that. Both are classic but when I think of the classic - not just great or even amazing tracks, CLASSIC - tracks on each album

IWW
-The Message
-Street Dreams
-I Gave You Power
-Affirmative Action
-If I Ruled The World

LAD
-Hypnotize
-Kick In The Door
-Last Day
-I Love The Dough
-What's Beef
-Mo Money Mo Problems
-nikkas Bleed
-I Got A Story To Tell
-Notorious Thugs
-Ten Crack Commandants
-Sky's The Limit
-Last Kiss Goodnight
-You're Nobody Till Somebody Kills You

:francis: I get one is a double LP but man...that's just too much to compete with. The highs are too high and they're all seminal tracks.

The fact that Watch Dem nikkas isn't on the list completely invalidates your whole argument and makes it to not be taken seriously :manny:

That's not a classic track fam. I'm talking about tracks where you put it on and everyone* knows the words, or everyone knows the track and reacts. Whether its a radio hit or not.

*everyone meaning rap fans from that era

Its a Classic track. You don't want to go to the "Popular Opinion Hit Record" route, it can go down a bad road lol. Sorry can't take your list seriously anymore

There was no girl song, pop song, street song, introspective song, regional song approach to making albums before LAD...

None!

It was the first formulaic album, set the blueprint for Jay's generic catalogue

Pac never had to do goofy shyt like that because his stuff was natural and organic. He somehow delivered albums with ten subject matter and all boxes checked, naturally

Never had to do a "well, let's have a song for the ladies, and uh let's do this regional song etc"

Not going to express an opinion on which is better but “Take it in Blood” is one of the finest lyrical displays of all time and is absolutely a classic track by any measure.

Disc one by itself is better than most rappers best albums, including some you see on a lot of top 10 lists

:sas1:

Disc two has about three duds but mostly dope and got numerous bona-fide classics

It's an amazing track but can you really argue it's a standard rap track you throw on for 90s nikkas and everyone knows the words, or instantly reacts, etc? I'm not a Versuz guy but an interesting thing about it was seeing how people react to certain records. I don't buy Take It In Blood being one of "those records" that gets that reaction. But even if we agree to add it, it's six records vs thirteen records.
