Yup. For example, West Virginia was a Democratic state until recently. Kentucky had Democrats running the state legislature and governorship until very recently.

These people clearly don't want the same things "progressives" or "liberals" want but keep trying to corral cats.

They didn't vote against Hillary or for Bernie because of their policies, but how they campaigned.

If they were rational, intelligent, and aware people they wouldn't cut off their nose to spite their face.

Why are you telling people what their self-interests are? These people have clear priorities. Two candidates addressed them (Trump, Bernie). Only Trump made it to the Finals so they were left with no other choice. Its really that simple. HRC flip flopped on TPP and her husband enacted NAFTA, policy that these rust belt workers blame for their conditions. Why the fukk would you expect them to vote to fukk themselves over again just because their party is more righteous in general terms?

You're the one calling them progressives. They just called themselves Democrats before this election. Those same workers that switched over to Trump would have stayed if they had Bernie who had the same trade and jobs policy as Trump. Those are the most important issues for these guys and you're trying to deny them their self-interest. These are guys that have voted Democrat for decades. They switched their vote because their traditional party put in a candidate that was going against their highest priority issues. If Bernie was in the running they would have no reason to switch sides as both sides would be addressing their needs.
fukk outta here. Clinton was a shytty and lazy candidate but Bernie would have lost too. Y'all can cover your heads in sand all you want but that senile old fart was a fringe candidate - nothing that happened in the primary indicated that he'd win in the general.

Wow these guys don't put LGBT issues ahead of putting food on their table. The horrors!

And it's not like Democrats have a platform that emphasizes the shared interests of workers and why social justice for all minorities and oppressed people is an issue for the entire working class, so :yeshrug:

What's that mean policy wise fiscally moderate?
I support smaller more effective government, I'm good with lowering taxes if we get rid of the loopholes that the 1% use and expect them to pay their share to support the country. I only like social programs that create change and are effective.

I support An overhaul (strengthening) of public education and a reform of drug crime sentencing and over policing because I think those are two of the biggest issues holding blacks back.

I'm more than willing to explain and I understand that my fiscal and social stances can conflict. I'm all about going all in on social programs that work no matter how progressive and I don't care for the ones that don't.

Smaller govt, lower taxes, limited social programs, public education reform....sounds like you're in the wrong party.

Clinton addressed them through policy, but didn't campaign there. I don't understand why you're refusing to accept that fact.

And yes, they voted for Trump under the false hope that removing trade deals would return them back to the glory days of manufacturing despite the realities of automation.

They have voted to delay the inevitable and now they're polluting their air, water, losing their insurance and healthcare.

I'm not because I still support public education and I'm completely opposed to vouchers and charter schools.

I support smaller government, but not small government. Government will grow as the population grows and smaller isn't always better across the board. I also don't co-opt smaller government to also mean less government intervention. I still support Keynesian economics. Like I said, moderate not conservative.

I didn't say limited social programs, I said social programs that work. Please don't twist my words to try and make my stance your own.

So Hillary was less amazing and had a different message? That's her fault.
No, Hillary had the emails and she was a woman. She also didn't campaign well in swing states that wanted to hear her message and not just shytting on Trump.
