Lots of current medicines have their foundations in "alternative" medicines. Natural remedies vs manufactured remedies. Its like looking at GMO crops vs organics. Some people just prefer to stay natural. I'm not discounting modern medicine as most of it is very good in curing problems but you also shouldn't discount natural remedies that have been used for thousands of years.

I see you touting strange alternatives (rubbing guava oil on your chakras to cure a fever, vibrating penal glands with quartz crystals for insomnia, meditating on rainbows to stop glaucoma and all sorts of foolishness) to time and tested treatments all the time.

What good do you bring to the world touting that kind of nonsense.

A Doctor knows all that can be done in helping a broken bone is to set it in place and maybe mitigate the pain, with pain relievers. You seem to have some sort of vendetta of all things medical? Why is this?

you have an incorrect view of my position. i think "western" medicine and "natural" medicine can both be beneficial and ive said that many times. they both have their own strengths and weaknesses and it's about assessing the medical situation of the individual.

i dont buy into western medicine as the only option, especially when medical malpractice is a leading cause of death for americans. plus we have more people sick, in pain, and on drugs than at any other time in history. all this to me suggests our health care system is not doing a good job.

i also happen to know things like herbs, meditation, proper breathing, a good diet, massage therapy, acupuncture, yoga, etc., all have legitimate health benefits, especially the herbs. herbs have been healing people naturally for thousands of years and some idiots still doubt their validity, despite the fact most pharmaceuticals when they are created are usually designed to mimic natural compounds discovered in plants.

my general theory on healing: if i have the time i will utilize natural methods because natural methods are safer and their effects more permanent. if the medical condition does not allow enough time for natural methods then i will utilize western methods. it's really whatever the situation calls for.

go learn how to properly read a scientific study you brown stained shytty mouth bytch :umad:

No he doesn't. Leyet said he would drink liquid chlorophyll to cure cancer. Leyet said a boy with a bruised spinal cord that was mostly paralyzed shouldn't get screws and plates inserted to help regain movement like a team of doctors recommended and should take herbs and see a holistic healer. He's an imbecile through and through. My 2 year old niece is more knowledgeable on medicine than him.

breh... you have to stop miseducating the people out here.

STOP trying to explain my beliefs to others because you get it wrong EVERY SINGLE TIME. all the above statements are taken out of a larger context and totally misrepresented.

i stated in both those situations that i would gather all the pertinent information and make a decision based on that, nothing more nothing less. and again, if i have the time im going with natural methods, if i dont have the time ill go with western methods.

really take the time to let that sink in so we avoid miscommunicating in the future.

I debated him on SOHH in that same thread. I understand his point of view, and he agreed that if you go that route you should go to someone who is experienced in Alternative Medicine and spinal injury. Modern medicine will provide better outcomes, though.

at least someone has reading comprehension skills :salute:

ive said it before and ill say it again. i would gather all the information pososible, get a wide variety of viewpoints, and then make the best decision based on available evidence.

Like modern medicine wasn't born out of alternative medicines and ancient remedies.

Anything acute will need more potent and traditional remedies, but mild or chronic ailments can benefit from alternative or traditional medicines. If you guys know like I know, medicine only aids the body by remedying a chemical or hormonal imbalance.

Prevention is always better than the treatment, and alternative medicine blows traditional out of the water when it comes to prevention.

this pretty much sums it up. great explanation.

Modern medicine is born out of the knowledge of botany and chemists ability to isolate a plants useful properties and perhaps synthesize them. A proper soup broth is more helpful than rubbing juniper berries on your navel to cure an upset stomach. Every year they come out with these insane ideas like ultra raw vegan low sodium no carb diet to cure cancer and all sorts of nonsense. Really to get rid of an overgrowth of cells all I have to do is eat echinacea leaves with miso soy butter?

A doctor mitigating pain does more for your body in helping it become healthy than licking raspberry ketones from a kangaroos @sshole.

there's good natural medicine and there's shytty natural medicine.

just like there's good western medicine and shytty western medicine.

but we are not condemning all of western medicine because of shortcomings limited to parts of western medicine.

uh...how do tell the difference?

Can you give an example of shytty western medicine?

but we are not condemning all of western medicine because of shortcomings limited to parts of western medicine.

Actually I have seen this done often
but moreover, "Western" medicine has a built in system of science based scrutiny and peer review that can be very effective when allowed.

Doctors and health professions use PDR (most popular for doctors), Medline (most popular for academics), National Institutes of Health, and United States Pharmacopeia regarding natural medicine.

Modern medicine...well...I'm a Pharmacist and you'll be surprised SOME of the stuff I learned in school is no longer valid or no longer recommended because it leads to pour outcomes. Past couple of years we learned how the inflammatory response to the HIV virus leads to fibrosis and early death, this was unknown and not part of the treatment protocol in 2006.

Doctors have to use alternative/natural medicine in treating their patients. In 2005 they suspected the role of B-vitamins in improving survival in patients with high blood pressure, now a doctor who does not have a patient on that regimen is not providing the standard of care.
