I think fans get bored with stale characters

turning heel is away to increase interest

it worked for Becky, Sasha and maybe Bayley...all 3 hit a wall with fan engagement and character development til they made the flip.

perhaps Reigns would be more over if he had a run as heel. Ppl forget the SHIELD were heels initially.

If this is really the way things are going, then maybe the best way to book is to have characters more or less stay themselves. People get attached to the wrestlers themselves especially nowadays and don't suddenly not like a guy because he pulls tights or cuts "you people are idiots" promos now.

For example Bayley will get fake heat if she goes "full heel" like TSC wants, and it'd be stupid and make no sense. And it won't get over. Bayley totally changing her look and cutting struggle "you people are idiots!" promos sounds terrible. They can still set up the storyline to get Becky more cheers than Sasha and Bayley without making it so transparent that Bayley and Sasha are wanting you to boo them.

The first thing 90% of people said to me when I was a kid in the 90s and told them I liked wrestling was "don't you know it's all fake"? I'm sure that was true in the 80s too, but that's besides the point.

Obviously since the rise of the internet and social media any kind of mystery or sense of kayfabe is completely dead, but the idea that the majority of fans didn't know what they were watching was fake is absurd. The product itself (WWF anyway) was so clearly fake. As obviously fake as a comic book movie. But we had magazines, there was the wrestling exposed doc in the 90s, you had McMahon exposing the business to athletic commissions saying it was fake, calling their shows exhibitions. I probably knew wrestling was fake before I knew Santa didn't exist.

Yeah they would tell kids it's fake and that's it. None of us knew the extent of it. We talked about the shyt in school everyday and it's nowhere near the way we talk about it now.
