Do you think it hurts the product?

Compare the recent Sasha and Bayley heel turns to KENTA’s heel turn in New Japan. It’s like bored fans who will pop for anything interesting that happens vs legit heat on characters the fans actually are invested in.

But it’s not an American vs Japanese thing. Even in the fukkery era of the Attitude era fans mostly :pacspit: at heel turns but this is obviously a product of these fans being so bored and watching a stale product that even if Cena came out and started powerbombing little kids these fans would be cheering. They react to the four or five things a year WWE does that actually stirs a reaction. So I don’t necessarily blame them. I mean I blame them for continuing to follow a bad wrestling product, but this falls on the WWE’s lack of ability to create an interesting product and also build up strong babyfaces. I get fans cheering Sasha turning on Nattie because who really gives a fukk, but isn’t Becky supposed to be the most popular wrestler in the company?

Fans popping for this shyt really diminishes the effect IMO. Maybe I’m on my old man Cornette shyt but it feels like WWE is incapable of getting real heel heat today.

WWE is not incapable of getting heel heat they just refuse to make their heels be heels.

Roman Reigns would be the most over heel in the company and would have been for the last however many years but while Seth and Dean have turned back and forth he's the only one who hasn't because of course :deadrose:

WWE has doubled and tripled down on their WE'LL MAKE THEM CHEER WHO WE WANT THEM TO.

KENTA's turn worked because he's an outsider that wrestles like a disrespectful dikk and the fans weren't taking to as a face anyway. It took about a year before they even accepted Shibata back and he was homegrown that left.

WWE would have kept on pushing KENTA as a face for years in the same circumstances.

That’s WWE’s fault for making shyt babyfaces and trying to copy the Daniel Bryan formula for five years. Bayley was already stale and damaged goods going back to the Charlotte feud in 2017. Of course a change in character was gonna get a pop.

Plus, people love villains in 2019.

It’s just a sign of the times

Y’all just have to accept that things are different in 2019 than they were in fukking 1998. Everyone knows it’s fake

Everyone knows it’s a scripted show.. people watch the shyt the same way they would game of thrones

A lot of this is still tied to Cena's initial push, and WWE has handled pretty much every top face the same way for 15 years now as stripping them of whatever made them popular and making it into an antagonistic relationship between "Vince" (in this case more booking as they still pop for Vince personally) and the audience.

Everybody knows it's fake, you're not gonna get cheered just cause your a good guy. If the bad guy is doing a great job with his promos and whatnot, he's gonna get cheered.
