I think it's pretty clear most fans didn't want a brand split. And an even bigger number didn't want another main title. When it was announced the belt was going to be named the "Universal Title" the consensus was that the name fukking sucked...this title had nothing going for it coming into last night. I don't think this blacklash is solely about the belt design, it's about everything involving that damn thing.
And when you are forcing something everyone is telling you they don't want, it's your job - as a wrestling promotion - to work the fans and make them like it. WWE clearly failed at it
Are the fans too fukking hard to please? Maybe. But then again these are the same fans that sent fukking flowers to Connecticut after a dope NXT Takeover.
Wrestling fans are easy as fukk to manipulate, if you fail at that you are not doing a good job as a wrestling company.
Is the belt an abomination? fukk no. The spinner/pimp belt that lasted 8 years was waaaaaay worse but fans are more vocal nowadays and WWE has to adapt to that. They failed with Roman Reigns and they have initially failed with the Universal Title. But as I said, wrestling fans are really easy to manipulate so it's not like this can't be turn around pretty quickly

Thats PATENTLY false. The brandsplit is something I didnt want but there was a "FINALLY" response from everyone. I think people just want it their way and would reject ANYTHING. You are right, that the spinner belt was 100x worse...the PRE REMODEL scratch logo belt was worse...in the history of belts the red belt is actually pretty fukkin good. Its better than every WCW/NWA belt ever, outside of the Big gold belt...its better than pre-wing hogan belt...and their idea, to have 3 visually similar belts as not to bury one of them, was well executed. im sure a tag belt rebrand is en route.
But, it doesnt matter...because the fans make it about them as usual as of late
And thats my EXACT point. You wouldnt have accepted anything new besides what you are used to. So they were going to lose from you unless it looked like whats familiar...then its not NEW ERA which is another complaintI don't know maybe we're just accustomed to seeing it being that way for decades now.
