:ehh: It's too early for this but I'll have to respectfully disgaree.

What if we take into account, even from the same war, German initial success from 1939-1941 up until the repel @ Moscow?

You know, I'm not even made you brought up the Blitzkrieg. That is certainly deserving of praise. But here's why I think the Japanese Operation was "better":

1) You can make the case that Germans caught many countries off guard, including France. Aside from France, The Germans toppled off countries that were inferior from a military standpoint.

In the Pacific, Japan was on par with the United States in the air, on sea and on land. People forget that the US got its ass handed to them all the way up until the Battle of Midway. Japan was ready for the counter attack, and had entrenched itself well in various Island strongholds. They played defense. The Marines had to land on several beaches under heavy fire. There's no surprising the enemy when you are crossing large water areas, it wasn't like DDay.

This clip from the Pacific might show (or the first scene from Saving Private Ryan):

The Marines landed like that on almost every island they took.

2) I'm biased.

For sure. For those that don't know:

During the Battle for Henderson Field, his unit came under attack by a regiment of approximately 3,000 soldiers from the Japanese Sendai Division. On October 24, 1942, Japanese forces began a frontal attack using machine guns, grenades, and mortars against the American heavy machine guns. Basilone commanded two sections of machine guns that fought for the next two days until only Basilone and two other Marines continued fighting.[5][6] Basilone moved an extra gun into position and maintained continual fire against the incoming Japanese forces. He then repaired and manned another machine gun, holding the defensive line until replacements arrived. As battle raged, ammunition became critically low. With supply lines cut off, Basilone fought through hostile ground to resupply his gunners with urgently needed ammunition. Toward the dawn of the battle, Basilone fought Japanese soldiers using only a .45 pistol. By the end of the engagement, the Japanese regiment was virtually annihilated. For his actions during this battle, he received the United States military's highest award for bravery, the Medal of Honor.[7]

Why dont they train the army like the marines? Does it cost more money?

Nah, the marines get the scraps from the navy's table. They broke...shytiest gear, vehicles, equipment, etc. like I said, they're the pawns...expendable. Gov't send them to the suicide missions...hence the name jarhead. The only thing that's really better about them is their recruiting commercials.
