How do you define “hood”?

A show or movies where the characters seem like they are from the hood, the show has hood elements, and the surrounding characters would exist in the hood. Fresh Prince isnt a hood show because Will was really the only character who seemed like he would exist in the hood. Pam and Martin roasting each other is definitely a hood element. Hussle Man is a character that would exist in the hood as well as Shenanah. You seem to be defining the hood as "street". Theres plenty of episodes of Martin that involve situations that would happen,or have happened if you grew up in the hood.

Bruh man is a character that can only exist in TV :mjlol: I don't think any Black Man from any area would be OK with some random big husky nikka just coming into your apartment THOUGH THE WINDOW and eating your food and shyt :dahell:

Yeah the hood has home break ins but they usually steal electronics and jewelry and leave. Not simply hang around and make themselves a sandwich :heh:

I think the closest was Roc. He was in B-More and was a garbage collector. He was fighting drug dealers and his brother was a bum. Truth be told we didn’t need hood shows. We had too many hood movies, plus the music. Everybody was “keeping it real”.

Martin wasnt a hood show, it was more of a low class show.:yeshrug:
I’m not going to say that. someone said black Sienfield. I’ll say it was our version of Friends. Martin wasn’t hood. He was an upstanding disc jockey by the time the show came to an end he had his own talk show. Gina was in charge of something. Not good at all this thread low key :mjpls:

This is why i say it was more low class than hood, we saw him work his way up to the top of the chain. A lot of episode dealt with financial issues and stuff like that. They had decent jobs but martin was sorta scrapping by. Just so we're clear, when I say low class I dont mean the quality of the show or w/e. I mean it was low class as in a look at ppl just scrapping by. Fresh Prince was the look at the high class side of the coin while Martin was a look at the low/lower middle class.

I would say Living Single was our version of Friends :manny:

I know characters have been listed out that aren't from the suburb, but with black people that grew up in the hood and maybe mvoed to the black part of a nicer cty/town/area, I think the show could be considered a mxi of both. Many of my friends in our NJ suburb had relatives from Newark, Elizabeth, Irvington and the area that had some of these character traits.

It depends on what you consider hood. Shanaynay (I hated that character) was a business owner. I don’t know what made Bruh Man “hood”? What made Mama Payne “hood”? The only ones I’ll give you is Jerome and Mad Dog.
That big ass rat followed them from Detroit to their Vacay. That was a hoodrat
