I didn't like the direction the show ultimately took, but the finale itself was okay.
What ruined the show was the shyt with Jacob in his tavern, with the names on the wall, and traveling and touching people and shyt...the "magic" coming out of nowhere. The strange way that people could become "ill" but never really understanding what this was or how it really affected people (Sayid and Claire at the end). The stupid fukking "rules" that seemed to be made up as they went along (They were of course, but the CHARACTERS should be consistent even if the writers aren't). I remember at the end, for some strange reason, the smoke monster (As Locke) couldn't kill the survivors, even though it had been trying to do that the entire series.
Still, the finale itself was emotional, and given what came before it, I was satisfied by it as an episode. The smoke monster dies, Hurley inherits the island and its powers, Claire and Kate raise the baby together, they all meet up in the afterlife....
The show arguably only like like 2 seasons of great television. Season 1 is definitely legit, fantastic programming. Season 2..I PERSONALLY like because of how fukking strange it is. The stuff with the button seems to be pretty hit or miss with most people. I LOVED the campyness. Season 3 was where the cracks started to form, those first 6 episodes (For people that remember, they aired 6 episodes, than took a long break before they aired the rest) was probably the worst run this show ever had. Season 4 was actually cool in my book. "The Constant" is one of the best episodes. Seasons 5 and 6 were both terrible.
As long as it's understood by everyone that they weren't dead the entire time (Some people don't understand the finale, and think the island was purgatory which it wasn't) than we can converse in this topic. Make no mistake, I definitely think that the show completely fell apart in season 5, just don't see why some blame it all on the finale, when it was all the shyt that came before the finale that was an issue.
