Hindsight 20/20, this interview was huge but damaging at the same time. The circus leader isnt supposed to pull thr curtain and tell the audience that the circus is rigged. No matter how smart they think they are.
This match was rigged, though. In kayfabe. For a shoot.

Who cares about the revisements..its on crystal clear audio that they had a no contest finish told to Bret Hart. They didnt do it. Then they got pissy and gay and started crying in a promo like this one...silly.
ending a ppv with a no contest tho is serious trash, its not like it was a in your house it was the god damn survivor series

As long as they tear down the house and put on a five star classic bret wouldnt have looked weak by losing. Benoit didnt look weak when he lost to angle in their classic royal rumble match. I like bret more than hbk but he should have lost cleanly to hbk and deal with hbk backstage after the match was over.

Bret screwed bret

He wanted to take a break after WM 12, he didn't run away.

HBK refused to lose the WWE championship, giving the lost my smile speech and citing a career ending knee injury. At Wrestlemania 13, he was the guest announcer and made a Wolfpac hand signal. A few months later, he came back and moonsaulted off the top rope and landed on his feet.

After that he got into a backstage fight with Bret Hart, made the infamous "Sunny Days" comment, then the Montreal screw job. Once he was champion, he supposedly railroaded Owen Hart's push, then he got the back injury that coincidentally took place as he was scheduled to job to Austin for the title.

Before Wrestlemania 14, there is a story about him refusing to job to Austin and the Undertaker threatened to kill him if he didn't. After Mike Tyson hit what was supposed to a ko punch, Michaels continued to chew his gum as he was supposed to be unconscious.

The British Bulldog was set to face Shawn Michaels in the main event of a UK-only PPV. Bulldog had done several interviews in his home country hyping the main event and saying that he was dedicating the match to his sister who was dying from cancer.

Shawn was in "No jobs to anybody" mode, and politiced to win the European Title and go "against the grain" and beat the hometown boy in the main event. Shawn made Bulldog tap to the figure four in front of Bulldog's home country, in front of his dying sister, in front of his wife, and in front of a UK only audience, and then he went on to do nothing with the European title until losing it on-purpose to tag partner Triple H on a RAW in December of 1997.

One of the incidents mentioned in Bret's book claims that Bret, who was champ at the time, told HBK that despite their differences, he would have no problem dropping the belt to him. HBK allegedly thanked him and then said "I just want you to know that I wouldn't do the same for you".

Also, according to multiple sources, including Jim Cornette and Hart, during a match with Vader, HBK got upset with him for apparently pulling his hair or throwing potatoes, that he dressed down Vader in front of everyone, and told him that he'd be fired if he did it again.

Regarding the Montreal Screwjob;

If you know the whole story then you know Bret didn't do anything wrong. Bret was willing to drop the title the next night as well as any time over the next month before his contract ended. Was Bret a dikk for not wanting to lose at SS? A little but in that era wrestlers had much more control so it wasn't crazy that he didn't want to lose there and he shouldn't have. He wasn't going to go to WCW with the title, he was completely fine with dropping it before his contract was up in a few weeks

Plus, if anyone didn't follow the "script" it was Vince and Shawn. Bret did what was agreed upon backstage. All Bret did was not like the script they had and refuse to do it--something Steve Austin did all the fukking time, by the way

If Vince McMahon would have controlled Shawn Michaels who seemingly did and said whatever he wanted without consequence, this would have never happened. Bret was fine with putting Shawn over until Shawn said that he wouldn't do the same for Bret.

Shawn being Shawn with that c*nty, unnecessary remark caused the whole thing to snowball from there. I don't blame Bret one bit for saying 'fukk that' and refusing to lose after all of that. IMO, Vince and Shawn were 99% to blame for what lead up to the screwjob.

Classic interview!

Vince with the ether.

I agree with everything Vince said. Bret was acting like a bytch, he should've done exactly what Vince said drop the title to HBK after a hard fought back and forth match then go on to WCW and make his millions. Even Hogan dropped the title on the way out and lost to his own finishing move too. Who the fukk was Bret to think he deserved some type of special treatment when he wasn't 10% of the draw that Hogan was especially when they were at war with the company Bret was going to work for.

It was a stupid decision by Bret and one I'm sure deep down whether he wants to admit it or not, he regrets acting the way he did.
Oh, you mean the same Hogan politicked his way out of dropping the title to Bret out on the way out (causing them to go with Yoko instead) :usure:

Hogan used his creative control and it was ok, but Bret does it and he's a bytch :rudy:

Hogan refusing to job to Bret was never proven to be true. Probably another one of Bret's delusions.

Hogan never used the 'I'm a hero' excuse to refused to job in the U.S. even though he was booked as an American hero (for far longer than Bret was ever booked as a Canadian hero). The fact that Bret wouldn't job in fukking Montreal is most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. " I'm a Canadian hero!!" LMAO!!! What a fukking mark.

If it was in Calgary maybe I could understand, but it was fukking Montreal. Does Bret even speak French? LOL.

Hogan should've been like Bret and said he can't lose to that Jap Yokozuna in the 'Heartland of America', because he's an American Hero, brother!.

All you Bret marks would've killed Hogan for doing that, but Bret does it and it's all good.

I believe Bret's contract only gave him 'reasonable' creative control, not total control and refusing to job in an entire country because you worked yourself into thinking you're a hero is not reasonable enough (or at all) to refuse a job.

For those who said HitGOAT acted like a bytch. Discuss the many times HBK refused to do jobs and lost his smile :russ:

Bret the shytman Mark worked himself into a shoot, which GOATsso brilliantly turned into a storyline and made the evil McMahon character

And he’s still bytching about it every damn day :mjlol:

I feel like Bret's supposed demands have been increasing exaggerated over the years.

The only thing he refused to do was to lose to Shawn Michaels specifically at SS in Montreal. And it was largely because Shawn said he would never put Bret over after Bret said he'd be happy to do the favors.

He never outright refused to lose in Canada. He offered to lose to a variety of different guys at different times, some of the shows were in Canada.

He also had reasonable creative control in his contract.

You can call refusing to lose to HBK in Montreal being a mark but at least stick to that. So much shyt has been made up about Bret's demands over the years.
