I don't think Sting would be as popular as he is. To be honest, the feuds and association with Flair made Sting the big star that he is. I honestly don't believe Hogan would've put Sting over like Flair did.

Just to sort of prove my point, Hogan kicked out of Warrior's finisher at 'Mania to protect his spot if Warrior flopped.

he did put warrior over tho :manny:

I edited my post after you quoted. I added that Hogan kicked out of Warrior's finisher at 'Mania to protect his spot if Warrior flopped. You could even argue Hogan kicked out before the 3-count, which I'm sure they may have gone that route if Warrior flopped.

Flair did more to legitimize Sting than Hogan did for Warrior. The biggest example being the time limit draw when Sting first challenged Flair for the title.

i don't think it was "in case warrior flopped".

i just think it was done so that hogan and warrior came off looking like equals.

but at the end of the day warrior was still the better man that night. he still won the match.

Its difficult to say because he wouldn't have been the Sting we know (Surfer or Crow) and so how Vince saw him and packaged him would have been totally different. He's naturally a total babyface guy so I could see him being very much a mid to late 80s/early 90s classic babyface posterboy midcard type. As a fan favorite he wasn't turned up to a 100 like Hogan, Savage and Warrior so I wonder how that would have worked.

I guess in someways it would have depended on his ring work. Bret got by and became one of the greats with not amazing mic/promo skills. Sting is more enthusiastic and better than him at that.

I could see him being paired in a tag team for years and then after Steroid scandal depending on how he looked or was force to look getting a singles push in the Michaels push. But how he would have adjusted had he hung on stayed in the mid 90s would have been tough to see. His reinvention as Crow sting was great but that was as much a product of WCW and NWO at the time and being the face there. I would have been curious to see what reinvention he would have done or would have been allowed to do had he stayed into the 90s.

But yeah depends on who he would feuding too. I don't think he would have had as long a career with that schedule and atmosphere compared to WCW/TNA

Sting would have been a hell of a lot bigger as far as muscles go, and would have probably died 5 years ago from heart complications. He definitely would have been WWF Champion at least twice.

He would have put on multiple classics with Macho Man, Rick Rude, Ricky Steamboat, Jake Roberts, Bret Hart, and others, as well as a great tag team run with Hogan. He'd also be a 3x Intercontinental Champ.

During the Attitude Era his gimmick would have been the Crow, but he'd be more along the lines of Mankind and Ministry Taker with an even darker gimmick than the original Crow Sting.

With Sting dropping from the rafters regularly, Owen Hart would have lived because they wouldnt have run that angle with him.

Sting is the key.

He sends Hulkamania back to the AWA wins the world title exactly 17 times and retires as champion :hmm:

I think he does ok because Vince would have loved to market his look/style

Longevity wise it's hard to say that he'd have become "the icon Sting" because he was surrounded with Flair, Arn, Windham, Dusty, Rotundo, Muta, the Steiners in NWA/WCW so it was hard not to get good at ur craft in that environment, Sting stood out and was over with those southern crowds which is amazing because they liked their realism over superhero cartoonishness and Sting had a stereotypical WWF look and presentation for sure which should tell u he was special that he was accepted in the NWA/WCW

Say what ya will but Sting did become a capable worker and I dunno if he'd have been able to do that in the WWE at that time because while his look stood out there were a lot of big guys back then and those are the type of cats they'd have had him working with moreso than the Bret/Shawn, Randy Savage/Ricky Steamboats and I don't think he'd have become the performer he became in his prime wrestling Warlords and Barbarians, mainly I don't think Hogan woulda been as giving towards him as he was Warrior.

Warrior occupied a different lane enough lane than Hogan to get a chance with the ball. Sting was too similar to Hulk for Hulk to be comfortable grooming this cat to take his spot. While Hogan always had him in the all too important larger than life charisma department Sting had the same Cali tan, was younger, better athlete, better physique (PAUSE) had all his hair at the time and the face paint. Hulk wasn't gonna rock with that I don't believe.

He'd have been good but not great in that system.
