Since the title was "Funky Beat", I thought it was funk
. I don't know how familiar you are with DC, but our summer time spot was Hains Point during this time. This park extended into the Potomac River. This song reminds of one late Friday evening, when me and a buddy of mine, who was carrying his giant boombox, wound up face to face with these two cute sisters, while walking on the sidewalk, which have a rail on the right side, that separate everybody from the river. "Funky Beat" had just started playing when we approached theses two sisters, and we just started jamming with them. I had the cuter girl...lol. After the song, we chatted for about 15 minutes, and I got her number, and my buddy got her girlfriends number.
Unfortunately, this girl never answered her phone. Maybe it was because she was three years older than me, and I was driving a Yugo, and I was just starting my low paid security guard job...but at least it was in the government. Or maybe she didn't really like the way we met. But nine times outta ten, she probably already had somebody. Yeah, I was disappointed, but I met another girl later that month, and she became my girlfriend. This was how I rolled back in the day.
But I'll never forget "Funky Beat", and how that song packed the dance floor that summer. This was when we had a spring and a summer.
